California Academy of Sciences debuts Guide by Cell text message technology

The California Academy of Sciences is using Guide by Cell text message technology to conduct visitor polls during their weekly Thursday NightLife events.

2010-11-03
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, November 03, 2010 (Press-News.org) Last week, The California Academy of Sciences used Guide by Cell text message technology during the museum's SuperNatural Halloween 2010 party.

Visitors were able to text in and vote for one of five contestants in the Halloween costume contest, with poll results projected in real-time on a 12-foot screen during the event.

The California Academy has also utilized Guide by Cell text message polls during their regular Thursday NightLife event, a weekly party for guests 21-and-over to enjoy special exhibits over cocktails, music and entertainment. Visitors used their cell phones to vote on questions like, "What's your favorite exhibit at the Academy?" and "What's the best performance you've seen at NightLife?"

"There's a lot of milling about and looking for things to do at NightLife, and the young 21+ crowd is really receptive to text messaging," said Greg Rotter, Interactive Developer at the Cal Academy. "We got some interesting user data and it was a great proof-of-concept for other uses of Guide by Cell text message technology."
