Tampa Doctor Offers Summer Literacy and Math Programs for Low Income Youth With Achievers Link
Achiever's Link was found by Dr. Duke Maduagwu to bridge the academic disparity in low income youths
SAINT PETERSBURG, FL, June 13, 2013
Dr. Duke Maduagwu, M.D. saw a disparity in the academic performance of Hillsborough County youth. That is why he founded Achievers Link, Inc. as a way to help students who have fallen behind. Currently 70% of the children who drop out of school do so because they have poor literacy skills. This problem is compounded when you realize that in low income families, private tutoring may not be an option due to cost.Achievers Link Summer Tutoring Bootcamp was founded as a summer learning loss prevention program. "My vision is to get the youth constructively engaged this summer, specifically in the core subjects: reading and math," explains Dr. Maduagwu, "I know that it may not be an option for some people to spend $400 a week on tutoring, so I have decided to offer the courses A La Carte."
Classes A La Carte allows you to pick and choose what classes you want your youth to take and on what days. Math classes are offered Monday through Friday from 10am to 12pm while reading classes are 2pm-4pm. Instead of having to sign your learner up for all 5 days, you can decide what days can fit into your schedule and budget.
"Through charging $10 an hour, I hope that I can reach the youth that are falling through the cracks and identify those who may have needs that aren't getting addressed," Dr. Maduagwu continues, "It is never too late to change a life for the better. Our programs can help make sure that children are on the right track heading into the next school year." Classes range in age from 8 years old to adults preparing for college, GED testing, or SATs.
Located at 8019 N. Himes Ave Suite #300, the Summer Tutoring Bootcamp kicks off on June 17th. Call Dr. Maduagwu to reserve a seat at 813-200-7161 or follow them on Twitter @Achieverslink.
