Rabbi Shlomo Braun of Aleh Foundation Interviews Cathy Guerriero, Candidate for NYC Public Advocate
Cathy Guerriero visited Rabbi Shlomo Braun at The Aleh Foundation Office to request assistance in being introduced to the Jewish Community throughout New York City.
BROOKLYN, NY, June 26, 2013
Rabbi Braun has been active in politics since July 1970 and most instrumental in assuring success in almost every campaign he was involved. Rabbi Shlomo Braun is also the Founder and Director of the Aleh Foundation. Aleh Foundation is Israel's foremost provider of the care and treatment of the severely disabled children. It is only through the efforts of the Aleh Foundation that the centers in Israel grew from a hospice program of 23 children to become the nation's largest facily of educational rehabilitative services to severely developmentally disabled children operating in four different cities in Israel. Aleh's remarkable new treatment methodology has completely overturned the way we see and treat brain-damaged children.Developed by a handful of gifted doctors, therapists, educators and researchers at Aleh, this approach was based on the premise that these children have potential to develop and can be helped to do so. Before, archaic custodial and protective philosophies often condemned the child to a lifetime of empty hours lying in bed or sitting in a wheelchair staring at a wall. Now, the child would receive constant, intensive attention and care, resulting in a degree of independence and self-care. Over the years, this treatment methodology has been expanded to help other types of developmental disabilities, including autism, cerebral palsy, and Down's syndrome. Today, Aleh's modern, spacious centers in Jerusalem, Bnei Brak, Gedera and the Negev provide live-in care and treatment for more than seven hundred youngsters ranging in age from 6 months to adults, including outpatient services for over 12,000 yearly. Guerriero, a newcomer to politics, is very aware of the limitations of the advocates office, and has a very clear plan how to utilize college students to do an outstanding job for the constituents throughout the city. In view of the fact that all citywide, boroughwide officials and many councilmembers are leaving this year due to term limits, it is expected that all new elected officials may encounter serious friction that may cause disaster to our citizens. Having Cathy Guerriero as the public advocate, it is comforting to expect that she will be on the lookout and prevent any mishaps.
Ms. Guerriero states that:
"There have been twelve years of small business owners being scapegoats. Twelve yers of being thumbed under the city government. It's time to change that. The advocate can focus on the needs of the small business owners who have been over-rgulated, over-ticketed, and overburdened by a city administration that seeks to help balance the budget on the backs of the economic drivers of our neighborhoods. The advocate has to make sure that the next mayor negociates in good faith with the many municipal unions that have been passed over and are waiting for conrtacts. The shell-game must stop and the hard-working people who build, renew, protect and care for our city deserve an advocate who knows their story, can relate to them and will stand up for them. The future of our city's middle class depends on this."
