Holiday Travel Gets a Jump Start in Rapid City

The Rapid City Convention & Visitors Bureau is promoting and supporting area events and businesses in an effort to drive economic growth in Rapid City this holiday season.

RAPID CITY, SD, November 11, 2010 (Press-News.org) Rapid City lodging, attractions and events kick off the holiday season early this year. Discounts for travelers from hotels and attractions will begin in early November, weeks ahead of the traditional start to the holiday season.

"Rapid City is a holiday destination, whether it is for shopping, concerts or parades," says Michelle Lintz, executive director of the Rapid City Convention and Visitors Bureau. "The Convention & Visitors Bureau and the tourism industry within the city are making a concerted effort to encourage potential visitors to take advantage of this array of activities and discounts."

Events will be held throughout Rapid City and the Black Hills during November and December. The Black Hills Community Theater will present a twist on Charles Dickens' holiday classic on Nov. 5-21. The Festival of Trees will be held at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. Ornately decorated holiday trees, gingerbread houses and decorations will raise funds for local non-profits on Nov. 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The annual Festival of Lights Parade will allow travelers to join the holiday celebrations in Rapid City. Floats and holiday dancers will fill the streets of downtown Rapid City on Nov. 27.

"We know holiday travelers enjoy stepping out of their vehicles and into local events," says Michelle Thomson, tourism director at the Rapid City Convention & Visitors Bureau. "Holiday events give visitors the opportunity to connect with the culture and people of Rapid City they see out their windows."
