PHOENIX, AZ, March 04, 2014 (Press-News.org) Last Saturday was the 21st annual Malibu Beach Ball, which took place at The Phoenician Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona. Tickets to the sold-out Ball benefited the Ronald A. Matricaria Institute of Molecular Medicine at Phoenix Children's Hospital.

WHAT IS MOLECULAR MEDICINE?

Another word for molecular is personal.

According to the Phoenix Children's Hospital: "By studying a patient's genetic makeup, researchers can identify their susceptibility to disease, predict their response to a particular drug and match the patient with a personalized therapy."

WHAT DOES THE INSTITUTE OF MOLECULAR MEDICINE HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH?

The Ronald A. Matricaria Institute of Molecular Medicine seeks to further the potential of this new branch of healthcare treatment and research. In short, the Institute's mission is to unlock our genetic codes and develop personalized medicine for children suffering from pediatric cancer and other diseases.

Ronald Matricaria is a 30-year veteran of the medical device and pharmaceutical industry. Matricaria established the Institute with a generous founding gift. Events like the Malibu Beach Ball will provide the additional necessary funding required to keep the project going. Philanthropy, along with collaboration with medical institutions like the University of Arizona College of Medicine and the Translational Genomics Research Institute, will help to ensure the Institute's success.
