LOS ANGELES, CA, March 05, 2014 (Press-News.org) Five Woodbury University graphic design students -- including one whose work was judged to be among the best in the world - have been named award-winners by Graphis, the international journal of visual communication, which each year recognizes outstanding work in design, advertising and photography.
Woodbury University's Logan Miller, a third-year student, was among 10 recipients of the International Platinum Award for a poster he designed that delivers a compelling message about gun violence. Separately, Miller was honored with a Merit Award for editorial design. Each year, Graphis awards the 100 top entries worldwide with Platinum or Gold awards, and the top regional entries with "Best in the Americas/Asia/Europe" Platinum, Gold, Silver and Merit awards. Winning entries are published in hardback annual editions.
Also named regional Merit Award winners for the Americas were Woodbury graphic design students Kaylee Huey (logo design); Matthew Johnson (logo design); Ani Minasyan (logo design); and Yerania Sanchez (logo design). Faculty advisers included Sue Vessella, Behnoush McKay and Bonnie Tanaka.
"We are exceptionally proud of these five students, who already are making their mark in the field of graphic design," said Sue Vessella, M.F.A., who chairs the Graphic Design Department and is associate dean of Woodbury's School of Media, Culture & Design. "Their work speaks for itself."
"Increasingly, students choose a Woodbury education because they understand they will have the opportunity to stretch their creative muscle and distinguish themselves from their peers at other institutions when the time comes to pursue a job," said Luis Ma. R. Calingo, Ph.D., president of Woodbury University. "We salute their creativity and talents and anticipate that this is only the beginning of a long and successful career in the field of graphic design."
