Manhattan ENT Treats Sinus Problems For Improved Health During The Changing Seasons

Dr. Lisa Liberatore helps patients find the cause of their sinus complications in Manhattan for improved ear, nose and throat health.

2014-04-13
MANHATTAN, NY, April 13, 2014 (Press-News.org) As an ENT in Manhattan, Dr. Lisa Liberatore offers her patients superior ear nose and throat care. During changes in seasons, weather and allergies, many patients can experience nasal and sinus problems. To help patients breathe easily and enjoy their days, Dr. Liberatore works to diagnose and treat her patients in Manhattan who have sinus problems.

"Sinuses are the hollow areas behind the cheekbones and forehead, around your eyes. Your sinuses make mucus to moisten the air you breathe, but if they get blocked, infected, or swollen, the mucus can't drain from them. Each nasal problem is treated differently depending on the cause, which is why visiting my office is important in finding the underlying cause to your discomfort," said Dr. Lisa Liberatore in Manhattan about sinus problems.

A sinus problem for patients in Manhattan and other areas typically begins with a viral head cold in which congestion in the nose blocks the drainage of the sinuses that can lead to acute sinusitis. Both the nose and sinuses are lined by moisturizing mucus membranes, so when mucus can't get out of the sinuses, bacteria begin to grow, and that causes a sinus infection.

Mucus normally collects in the sinuses and drains into the nasal passages, but when a person has a cold or an allergy attack, the sinuses become inflamed and are unable to drain. Without drainage, this can lead to congestion and infection. By visiting Lexington ENT, patients can receive a proper diagnosis, accompanied by treatment to find relief in Manhattan from sinus problems.

Acute sinusitis becomes chronic when a person suffers from frequent sinusitis, or if the infection lasts more than three months. Symptoms of chronic sinusitis may be less severe than those of acute, but untreated chronic sinusitis can cause damage to the sinuses and cheekbones that sometimes can require surgery to repair. If Liberatore believes a patient has chronic sinusitis, she may recommend intensive antibiotic therapy and may even require surgery to remove physical obstructions that may contribute to sinusitis.

From sinusitis to chronic sinusitis, facial pain and allergies, it is important to visit Lexington ENT in Manhattan for further diagnosis and treatment planning. By visiting Dr. Lisa Liberatore and her experienced staff at Lexington ENT, patients can take the next step toward being able to breathe properly.
