BOCA RATON, FL, April 15, 2014 (Press-News.org) Lisa Kaufman says screening procedures for providers of home care are in desperate need of an overhaul.
There are currently more than 2,000 so-called "companion sitter" companies operating in Florida, providing in-home care to the elderly and infirm. While these companies are registered with state agencies that oversee in-home care, they are not required by the State of Florida to be licensed for in-home caregiving services. This is a big problem to advocates like Lisa Kaufman.
Lisa Kaufman is a provider of home care services in the Boca Raton area. She has more than twenty years of experience. She says the lack of licensing means that none of the more than 2,000 providers are required to screen their employees with criminal background checks or other proof of integrity, before allowing them access to patients' homes. Kaufman believes this is a glaring loophole that urgently needs to be close.
Lisa Kaufman is in a position to know. As the owner and operator of Boca Raton Home Care Services, she ensures that her employees undergo mandatory screening procedures and background checks to be sure they are reliable providers of health care in the home setting. She is also a member of a national accreditation board for home health care providers that ranks companies on a variety of metrics, including criminal background checks and screenings for employees.
"Florida needs to get more serious about its screening process both for the health and safety of those in need of care and for the security of loved ones and family members," Lisa Kaufman says.
"The policies in place are good where they work, but are currently inadequate to cover the many different types of home care for Boca Raton currently in operation. Until something is done people can never be 100% sure they are letting the right people into their homes and into the homes of their vulnerable loved ones."
Kaufman's own experience in the industry has taught Lisa Kaufman that most practitioners are working with integrity. But she says there must be across-the-board industry standards. Without them, wayward agencies could slip through the cracks. And it doesn't take more than one or two agencies operating with lax standards to wreak havoc in the community of those providing home care for Boca Raton and throughout the industry. Since Lisa Kaufman is such a believer in the power and efficacy of home care for Boca Raton, she works hard to ensure that the industry is protected and that those it serves are protected under the law, as well.
"State-mandated diligence is a necessary reality in a field where caregivers are in charge of such vulnerable people," Lisa Kaufman said. "People who need assistance in performing basic life functions also need protection when it comes to who we are allowing into the home and into the lives of these people."
Lisa Kaufman has been recognized throughout the home health care industry for her commitment to excellence. She is pleased that her company has received much praise and acclaim for its services.
About: Lisa Kaufman and Boca Raton Home Care Services are providers of quality home care for Boca Raton.
