SEATTLE, WA, April 23, 2014 (Press-News.org) Warren and Betsy Talbot offer a straightforward yet intimate take on how they turned their own failing marriage around in their fourth book, Married with Luggage: What We Learned About Love by Traveling the World.
At the lowest point in their marriage in 2006 they decided to consciously put their relationship first, and the result paved the way for a years-long adventure together around the world. Today the Talbots celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary in Spain.
"When we focused on how to get the relationship we wanted instead of complaining about the one we had, everything changed," says coauthor Betsy Talbot. She credits a focus on designing the lifestyle they wanted, right down to their work commutes and where they lived, for starting the turnaround in their marriage. As they continued "consciously coupling," even going so far as to institute a one-year renewable marriage contract, they were surprised at how quickly they achieved the bond that had previously eluded them.
"The 'us' of 2006 would never have been able to hike 300 miles in Turkey or write even one page of a book together," says coauthor Warren Talbot. Since selling everything they owned to travel the world in 2010, the Talbots have faced an erupting volcano, an 18-hour storm in the icy Drake Passage, and a political coup attempt. Their book details these adventures and more, highlighting how they became a stronger team as they continued refining their relationship and life goals together.
To celebrate love, one lucky reader of the book will win two First-Class Global Passes from Eurail.com to plan their own international love affair. The drawing will be May 15, 2014, and contest rules can be found at http://www.MarriedwithLuggage.com/contest

2014-04-23
When it comes to society not much has changed. We have the same old problems as ever. Crime, depression, greed, jealousy, unhappiness, drug addictions; in fact all the emotionally challenged behavior of old is all still there.
Even though life is better economically it is still riddled with the same emotional problems as ever. It is because the education for creating wealth and making a living has steadily improved over the ages; the education for emotional intelligence has stagnated since the ancient times. The education for the art of living has remained the same. ...

WSU researchers tackle 'virtually ignored' psychological study of spite
2014-04-23
PULLMAN, Wash.—Some of the world's nastiest behavior grows out of spite, the dark art of hurting an opponent even when it comes at a price to yourself.
Divorcing couples often go out of their way to hurt each other and even their kids, skirting the more peaceful path to moving on.
Tax evaders can grow so vengeful over a penalty that they'll double down on their cheating.
Terrorists can be so keen to hurt their enemies, they commit suicide in the process.
Spitefulness can even elevate a small slight, like lurking in wait for a parking space, into a vengeance worthy transgression.

Children hear as much sophisticated information about animals when parents read picture book stories about animals as when they read flashcard-type animal vocabulary books, according to a new study from the University of Waterloo.
"Marketers tell parents and educators that vocabulary books are more educational, so picture books are often dismissed as being just for fun," said the study's author, Professor Daniela O'Neill. "But our findings show that reading picture books with kids exposes them to information about animals in a way that allows children to readily apply ...
