Changes to Industry Quality Requirements Offer Aerospace & Defense Suppliers New Challenges, Big Opportunities

Silico Corporation Launches New Software to Aid Compliance with AS9100 Revision C

2011-01-12
CLEVELAND, OH, January 12, 2011 (Press-News.org) Effective July 1, 2011, any supplier looking to obtain quality management certification in order to do business in the aerospace and defense industries will be required to meet the new AS9100C requirements. In addition, any company currently doing business with the aerospace and defense industry that is certified to AS9100 will have to recertify to AS9100C.

After holding several webinars about the changes to the aerospace quality requirements, John Cachat, President and CEO of Silico, received several calls from large and small companies asking for software to help manage these requirements.

"The new AS9100 version has many additional requirements, including risk management, configuration management, project management and work transfer controls. It places new emphasis on customer satisfaction and supplier management," stated Cachat. "These new requirements are not hard to explain, but often difficult to implement, especially in the smaller companies that do not have many employees and cannot afford to add more people to push paper."

Silico started receiving calls due to Cachat's proven track record in computerizing aerospace quality systems. Cachat managed a United States Research project while at a major aerospace landing gear manufacturer to design a business system that would handle all non-financial and non-inventory related business needs. The result of this USAF research was a best in class business model which Cachat then used to develop software.

"Silico was not originally planning on developing a commercial off the shelf (COTS) software application, as its core software development services create custom solutions tailored to each specific customer's needs," stated Tim Fallon, VP of Operations at Silico. "However, for anyone that has met or worked with John Cachat, they know his vision and his desire to help companies succeed always challenges him to find a way to help."

Today's announcement is regarding the development and delivery of a state of the art software solution, that unlike off the shelf software, provides an extensive set of screen templates and business workflows that customers can change themselves, without programming. The technology stack provides workflow tools to implement specific business processes for each company and the ability to modify screens and related databases, literally in hours, by business analysts, not programmers.

"Cachat is leveraging his deep expertise in aerospace and his proven experience in developing enterprise quality management systems to provide a rapid solution development process that will enable each customer to tailor the software based on their forms, their processes, and their needs," confirmed Fallon.

Silico will demonstrate this new technology platform on January 11, 2011 during a live webinar scheduled for 2PM EST. To register for this event, go to http://www.silicocorp.com/events or call 001-440-333-9900.

Recordings of the earlier educational webinar regarding the new AS9100C revision can be found at the Silico media portal, http://www.media.silicocorp.net.
