Renaissance Music Man David Pinks: Helping Turn Victims into Survivors

Superstar Producer and Songwriter created the David Pinks Foundation to help victims of sexual abuse.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN, January 20, 2011

"There's always a kid, It's about that one little kid. It's about that kid, because it's that kid who's gonna suffer." This is what David Pinks told Nightlight in March of 2006 after suffering from abuse for 2 years. Just as this was David's motivation for reporting his abuser, it was also the motivation behind creating the David Pinks Foundation. David has made it his mission to save the world one survivor at a time.

David "Boom" Pinks is a one of the greatest musical talents of our generation, he can produce, sing and write. Born and raised in Harlem, the Mecca of style and culture, David "Boom" Pinks has developed into the ultimate renaissance artist; not seen since the likes of Great Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald. Growing up, he was afforded the opportunity traveled the world and performed in the internationally acclaimed Boys Choir of Harlem. During his tenure with The Boys Choir of Harlem, David worked along side and performed with some of the most talented artists in history, from legendary entertainers such as: Luther Vandross, Babyface, Gerald Levert Shania Twain, Kanye West, LL Cool J and Ma$e.

At the young age of 16, David had the amazing opportunity to work with one of the greats in Kanye West. This led to performances on two of the tracks on Kanye's debut album "College Dropout" (Jesus Walks & Two Words). During this wonderful opportunity to work with a true great, Kanye gave David the guidance and inspiration to write and produce, which are his true passions.

During his quick rise to the top, David went on to produce tracks for Juelz Santana, Jim Jones, Ma$e, Fat Joe, Maino, Black Rob, Joe Budden, Styles P, Pusha T, Tum Tum, Big Tuck, Jae Millz, Hell Rell, and DJ Webstar. Additionally, he is a regular music producer for cable television, working for MTV's hit show's "The Shop, 8th & Ocean, My Super Sweet 16, TRL, Made, Sucker Free Countdown, Making the Band 4, E!'s "Keeping up with the Kardashians", and several other shows. Current projects include: Leona Lewis, Juelz Santana, Joe Budden, DJ Webstar, Tony Sunshine to name a few.

While David is an unmatched talent in the music studio, the most rewarding part of David's success is being afforded the opportunity to give back to other victims of abuse and help them overcome their pain. "My love for music is what wakes me up in the morning. It will always be my passion. But what keeps me going, is knowing that I have helped someone." Pinks said.

David created the David Pinks Foundation in December of 2010 as a non-for-profit organization dedicating to creating an environment that is safe for victims of abuse to open up and truly recover and move on to living a life as a survivor no longer a victim. As a true SURVIVOR of one of the most high profile sexual abuse scandals of this decade, David has made himself an ambassador and places the utmost importance to help turn other victims into survivors. From a young age David who abused by someone he considers a mentor and role model; David finally worked up the courage to report this abuse to Tim Battle who remains a close family friend and musical mentor. Just as Tim was there for David to provide the needed support during his painful experience, he wishes to provide the same type of role to any and all victims that are in need of the support. DPF is a collection of programs (including music clinics, song writing camps, after school arts program and eventually an arts center in Harlem) that is geared toward giving victims of various forms of abuse a healthy and productive method to release and channel their emotions into something positive.

"David is a fighter and so passionate with everything he does he goes at it 100 percent, to be a part of something so amazing is such an honor for me" says Andi Rouse who is the president of the David Pinks Foundation. Rouse is currently in the process of planning several fundraising events for 2011.

"I had to sleep on studio couches, wait for hours to be heard, and work around the clock to be the best at what I wanted to do. The hard work and dedication you put in will eventually pay off, only if you stay focus and be persistent. Knock down those doors, break through the barriers from you and the goal you're trying to achieve," he said.

But David's path to success was paved with pain that no child should endure: living in fear of being abused and feeling alone. There were many days when David would come home crying. This taught a young David to love himself and ignore the teasing from others and funnel his pain into something positive by focusing on his goals, music and academics "because in order to get anywhere in life, you have to set goals." That's a message David shares with children and adults who come to him seeking advice.

"What is your goal in school, what is your goal with your attitude, what is your goal with your brothers and sisters, what is your goal with your family?" Those are the kinds of questions kids are asked. David plans to spend countless hours with children who are victims or underprivileged, giving them time, love, Christmas gifts, school supplies and college scholarships all through his "David Pinks Foundation."

"I do it because I truly am passionate about making a difference in these kids' lives," he said. "I would definitely want people to talk about my faith and talk about the light that I walk in," Pinks declares.
