WINDSOR, ENGLAND, February 17, 2011 (Press-News.org) These phones share quite a lot, and BlackBerry have clearly pitched their Storm 2 to compete with the iPhone 4. Both are touchscreen smartphones, both record video, both are highly desirable pieces of kit.
Feature wise, there are good points and bad points with each. Here's our rundown of the top 10 features compared:
10. Memory.
One of the biggest complaints with the iPhone is the lack of removable storage. The iPhone, although it has plenty of on-board memory to start with (a choice of 16GB or 32G), the fact that once it's full of your stuff, that's it, is a bit of a blow. The Storm2 on the other hand, starts with just 256MB of internal memory, but you can add memory cards up to 16GB, giving you unlimited offline storage.
9. Design.
The iPhone is characteristically Apple, with smooth, scratch- and fingerprint-resistant glass on each side, surrounded by a sleek metal bezel. It is just 9.3mm thick, and weighs 137g compared to the bulkier and heavier Storm2 at 160g. The BlackBerry Storm has more rounded edges, and feels a little more comfortable in the hand.
8. Operating system.
The iPhone OS appears to have defined excellence in terms of usability. The interface is intuitive, simple, and well thought out. With 'multi-touch' allowing you to pinch-zoom an area of the screen, the iPhone is difficult to beat. The Storm OS has been adapted from non-touchscreen BlackBerry smartphones, and has some great features, particularly with music and video.
7. Music.
The iPhone shares similar music capabilities to the iPod touch range, and indeed, has built-in iPod and iTunes apps, syncing seamlessly with iTunes on your computer. The Media Sync feature on the Storm2 syncs with both iTunes and Windows Media Player. Both phones have a standard 3.5mm audio jack, so you can listen with your favourite headphones.
6. Screen.
Both phones have a capacitive touchscreen, and both are bright and sharp, great for viewing photos and videos. The iPhone screen, called the 'retina' display, has a resolution almost twice that of the Storm2, and is much sharper - particularly noticeable with small text.
