TAMPA, FL, March 15, 2011 (Press-News.org) DIG Coaching Practice presents Attention Talk Radio with host, Jeff Copper, attention coach, and Dr. Michael Linden on quantitative electroencephalography (QEEG) in the diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Dr. Linden addresses the pitfalls of diagnosing ADHD based only on symptoms and the advantages of using QEEG to accurately diagnose ADHD.
Dr. Michael Linden is a licensed clinical psychologist, marriage, family and child therapist, and a BCIA Fellow and nationally certified neurofeedback and biofeedback therapist since 1984. He is the director of the Attention Learning Center and director of the Mission Psychological Consultants Biofeedback Program in San Juan Capistrano, California. He can be found online at http://www.mpccares.com.
Dr. Linden has been interested in helping children with attention deficit disorder and autism since high school. He shares that he is always frustrated by doctors who do not complete a thorough evaluation and then misdiagnose ADD in more than one-third of the cases. Even more disappointing, he asserts, are those professionals who are not open to any treatments other than stimulant medications for ADD, although neurofeedback (EEG biofeedback) for the treatment of ADD has been researched in scientific literature since 1976. Over the last ten years, four subtypes of ADD, at least five subtypes of autism, and two subtypes of Asperger's have been discovered. Several of the subtypes of ADD not only do not respond well to but may become worse on stimulant medication. Many autistic children have abnormal EEG patterns, even mild seizures that can be seen only in EEG tests. More than half of those with autism that have been tested have over-aroused brain patterns that are often aggravated by stimulating medications such as Ritalin and Prozac.
With a proper diagnosis, Dr. Linden has found that an ADD child's grades and self-esteem increase, and adults struggling with ADD also show great improvement. The most rewarding aspect of Dr. Linden's work has been in witnessing the near "miraculous" improvements in behavior, social skills, and communication after receiving neurofeedback. To Dr. Linden, it is heart-warming and unforgettable to see a child who begins to speak in sentences and actually carry on a conversation for the first time or an adult who has his first significant relationship. Dr. Linden's professional goal is to help people with ADD and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) become aware of these long-lasting treatments that do not have side effects.
The program is scheduled for Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at 9:00 pm ET on Attention Talk Radio (ATR), a live, interactive, Internet talk-radio show hosted each week by Jeff Copper, attention coach.
