AUSTIN, TX, March 24, 2011 (Press-News.org) Great Falls Construction of Gorham, Maine is preparing to renovate and restore the historic Walker Memorial Library, saving the building structure from water damage, and securing it for the future. The Walker Memorial Library is located at 800 Main Street in Westbrook.
Constructed in 1894, the library is a town treasure, but in recent years, many of the rooms have been unusable due to water damage.
To preserve the building and transform it into a premier, fully usable space, the Great Falls team, working with Curt Sachs, the architect, will have a series of immediate challenges to overcome. Initial work will be performed on preserving and restoring
key historical aspects of the exterior, including the slate roof and structural and mechanical upgrades to install perimeter drainage. In addition, Great Falls will be re- pointing the granite on the side of the library facing Main Street, repairing and replacing terra cotta elements, re-installing the front granite steps that have been removed, as well as general painting and repairs of exterior features. "We cannot wait to see the transformation," says Todd Rothstein, Project Manager with Great Falls. "Historical buildings can be challenging, but we are eager to restore this part of the community."
The reconstruction will begin in early April and will be completed in the fall of 2011...
