Kennesaw State's MA in American Studies Program sponsors Sam Quinones as he takes the True Story! Stage at Kavarna

Tell Your True Tale writers' workshop will be presented on April 13 at Kavarna in Decatur

2011-03-31
KENNESAW, GA, March 31, 2011 (Press-News.org) Sam Quinones, a Los Angeles Times reporter, storyteller, and author of two creative nonfiction books about Mexico and Mexican immigration, will host a two-hour writing workshop entitled, "Tell Your True Tale." Quinones will discuss his bold brand of reporting, including embedding with Mexican gangs, migrant farm workers and drag queens to tell the story of their lives. He will also teach you how to effectively tell your stories.
Tell Your True Tale Writers' Workshop
Held at the Kavarna Cafe, 707 East Lake Drive, Decatur, on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 beginning at 8:00 p.m. This workshop is sponsored by "True Story!" and the MA in American Studies Program at Kennesaw State University. It is also being cosponsored by the Georgia Writers Association, a state-wide literary organization.

About Sam Quinones
He is an LA Times reporter, storyteller, and author of two books: True Tales from Another Mexico and Antonio's Gun and Delfina's Dream. He also edits "Tell Your True Tale," an experiment in storytelling. He teaches a workshop of the same name, based on his books and the stories he's written for most of his 24-year journalism career. The San Francisco Chronicle Book Review called him "the most original American writer on the border and Mexico out there." The LA Times Book Review said, "over the last 15 years, he has filed the best dispatches about Mexican immigration and its effects on the United States and Mexico, bar none." For more information, see http://www.samquinones.com.

About "True Story!"
A night of tantalizingly true tales told by rogue writers and nervy journalists, "True Story!" takes place every other month at Kavarna, a bar and coffee-shop in Decatur's Oakhurst neighborhood. Besides reading their work, the vetted readers also bring fascinating and often funny artifacts from their past to share with the crowd—love letters never sent, replies from Shaun Cassidy's fan club, or two generations of baby teeth—and tell the stories behind these artifacts.
As Atlanta's first nonfiction reading series with an emphasis on bringing together creative writers and journalists to tell good stories, "True Story!" is excited to partner with the MA in American Studies Program at Kennesaw State University and the Georgia Writers Association to bring Sam Quinones to the Kavarna stage.
