Writing Workshops Opens At The Mary Pickford Studio In Los Angeles

A brand new writing school located out of Los Angeles California has recently opened a new location at the Mary Pickford Studio. This will extend the reach of the Your Plot Thickens writing school in Los Angeles.

2011-04-06
LOS ANGELES, CA, April 05, 2011 (Press-News.org) Your Plot Thickens http://www.yourplotthickens.com Published writer and former magazine editor, Lara Sterling, announces that Your Plot Thickens, a writing school based in the South Bay of Los Angeles, has joined forces with the Mary Pickford Institute in Los Angeles to develop the Mary Pickford Studio.

The Mary Pickford Institute functions to cultivate awareness of film pioneer Mary Pickford's life while also providing outreach to at-risk youth through a Mobile Classroom, which is, in essence, a digital production and editing suite on wheels.

The Mary Pickford Studio is a space that the Institute has on its property, which is available for small productions and screenings and also as a place for meetings and seminars.

Sterling is currently collaborating with the staff of the Mary Pickford Institute to develop the Mary Pickford Studio as a small theater in which to feature small productions and teach seminars with well-known screenwriting teachers on such subjects as Dialogue for Screenplays or How to Write Your Opening Scene.

The Mary Pickford Studio is located at 8885 Venice Boulevard, Suite 102, Los Angeles, CA, 90034. Currently on the calendar is a networking mixer through the LA Writers Network. This will take place on April 23, 6pm-8:30pm.

For rentals or bookings of the Mary Pickford Studio, please contact Andi Hicks, director of the Mary Pickford Institute, at (310) 287-3700.

Your Plot Thickens features workshops and seminars for novelists and screenwriters that are suitable for both beginning and advanced writers. The difference between Your Plot Thickens and other writing schools is that at Your Plot Thickens, students actually write scenes from their novels or screenplays in class.

Your Plot Thickens is now also offering private consultation on screenplays with former UCLA screenwriting professor Neill D. Hicks. With over twenty years experience as a screenwriting teacher and credits that include Rumble in the Bronx, Hicks will offer two services to aspiring screenwriters through Your Plot Thickens: 1) story consultation on scripts between 110-120 pages for which writers will receive notes and an hour-long phone consultation; 2) story consultation on treatments that are three to five pages, the object of which is to have the story down before writers embark on the journey of actually writing the script.

To learn more about Your Plot Thickens' services or to view a schedule of upcoming workshops, seminars and events, please visit http://www.yourplotthickens.com or call (424) 209-8521.

Lara Sterling began her writing career as a mentor for at-risk youth writers and as a documentary filmmaker about the underground Rock in Spanish scene, which consisted of rock bands that had been created by recent immigrants, primarily from Mexico, who were making music in their own native tongue. Sterling moved to Spain in 2001, where she lived for four years, writing for major Spanish publications, the likes of Spanish Playboy. She is a graduate of the two-year intensive screenwriting program at Writer's Boot Camp. Today, she writes screenplays and novels and is a cast member of the Magic Meathands Theater Company. She can be seen almost weekly performing Improv as well as sketches. She lives in San Pedro with her husband and two children.

It’s not over when it's over: Storing sounds in the inner ear

2011-04-06
Research shows that vibrations in the inner ear continue even after a sound has ended, perhaps serving as a kind of mechanical memory of recent sounds. In addition to contributing to the understanding of the complex process of sound perception, the results may shed light on other fascinating aspects of the auditory system, such as why some gaps between sounds are too brief to be perceived by the human ear. The study is published by Cell Press in the April 5th issue of Biophysical Journal. The inner ear contains a structure called the cochlea that serves as the organ ...

Did dinosaurs have lice? Researchers say it's possible

Did dinosaurs have lice? Researchers say its possible
2011-04-06
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — A new study louses up a popular theory of animal evolution and opens up the possibility that dinosaurs were early – perhaps even the first – animal hosts of lice. The study, in Biology Letters, uses fossils and molecular data to track the evolution of lice and their hosts. It offers strong evidence, the researchers said, that the ancestors of lice that today feed on birds and mammals began to diversify before a mass extinction event killed off the dinosaurs about 65 million years ago. "This study lends support to the idea that major groups of birds ...
