Christina Pratt Talks about "Spirit Teachers and Better Humans" on April 12 "Why Shamanism Now?"

On her radio show "Why Shamanism Now? A Practical Path to Authenticity", shaman and host Christina Pratt talks about how spirits are teachers who help us to be better humans and why it is important for us to seek them out.

2011-04-10
RHINEBECK, NY, April 10, 2011 (Press-News.org) Streaming live on the Co-Creator Radio Network on Tuesday, April 12, at 11 a.m. Pacific time/2 p.m. Eastern time, on her show "Why Shamanism Now?: A Practical Path to Authenticity," shaman and founder of the Last Mask Center for Shamanic Healing Christina Pratt tells listeners: "The spirits are teachers, not therapists. They are here to teach us to be better humans." According to Pratt, the helping spirits are here to help us sort out how to live well in our time. Even Death and the Trickster -- along with plants, animals, and the elements -- are part of this cast of compassionate characters who are tirelessly committed to teaching us to be better humans. The spirits do not come to assist us for self-help or enlightenment; they come to assist us in doing the precious, unique thing we have come here to do in a way that is good for all living things. The idea that first contact peoples were a barbaric lot who were civilized by their colonizers has thankfully been dispelled, especially now that we see all around the globe the greed, toxic hazards, and ignorance at the heart of the colonizer's unsustainable plans. Pratt explains that it was the spirits who brought the ways to live morally and ethically together, rescuing humanity from its most base nature and teaching us the enlightened self-interest inherent in truly living as One with all things.

In this episode of "Why Shamanism Now?" titled "Spirit Teachers and Better Humans", Pratt explores why we need the dark, inscrutable, and luminous world of spirit to be truly human, and why we should bother to be better.

Christina Pratt is an authentic, non-traditional contemporary shaman. In practice since 1990, she specializes in mending the soul and transforming the parts of life that feel impossible. A teacher of exceptional clarity, humor, and inspiration, Pratt brings the power of shamanism into the practical grasp of anyone willing to take responsibility for improving the quality of their life. Her well-received book, An Encyclopedia of Shamanism (Rosen), is an 800-page, two-volume set with over 750 in-depth entries that clearly discuss the basic concepts of shamanism, methods, and traditions of over 50 different shamanic peoples. Pratt is the founder of the Last Mask Center for Shamanic Healing in Portland, OR, and New York, NY, creator of the original Foundations of Shamanism and Shamanic Healing course at the University of Minnesota, and a frequent and honored speaker for the American Holistic Medical Association.
