Meet Local Author of Real Dogs Don't Whisper During Event Benefitting FACE Foundation

Meet local author, Kelly Preston, of "Real Dogs Don't Whisper", Saturday June 18 2011 from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Rolling Hills Pet Hospital.

2011-06-09
SAN JOSE, CA, June 09, 2011 (Press-News.org) Rolling Hills Pet Hospital, 2457 Fenton Street Chula Vista, CA, is the proud sponsor of this event. A portion of the book proceeds will go to help support FACE Foundation.

Real Dogs Don't Whisper: Life Lessons from a Larger than Life Dog! (and his Owner), a book aimed at the young adult market (with strong crossover potential), is the true story of a remarkable family as told in a unique way by both myself, the owner of the household, and my spunky, hilarious, nine-year old Lhasa Apso, Mr. MaGoo.

The narrative is at times tear-jerking, at times hysterical, and always enthralling. Real Dogs Don't Whisper is more than a book about dogs - it's a book about life.

During the event, you will be able to have your copy autographed, ask questions about her co-author and cast, and have photographs taken. In addition tours of the hospital will be given and will be able ask questions to the staff as the book highlights Dr. Hilinski and team.

In addition, Rolling Hills Pet Hospital will be giving out a voucher for a FREE exam during the event for those that purchase a book. Refreshments will be served during the event.

About the authors
Kelly Preston is, first and foremost, an animal lover. Raised on a ten-acre property in a small town in Pennsylvania, she grew up with horses, rabbits, and - of course - dogs. When she left home after college, she acquired Gizmo, an irresistible Lhasa Apso that started her on a journey full of joys and sorrows, hopes and tribulations, frustrations, endless lessons in patience, and above all else, love. All of this has come at the hands (more precisely the paws) of Gizmo, Betty Boop, Buffy, Carla Mae, and the inimitable Mr. MaGoo.
Mr. MaGoo is a nine-year-old Lhasa Apso and the book's co-creator and co-writer. He is, in his own words, "the alpha and omega of all dogs - in the cutest and sparkiest, most fun-loving package ever." Ignoring Kelly's persistent eye-rolling, Mr. MaGoo has forged ahead with this project in an attempt to, as he puts it, "present the facts from a dog's perspective. In other words, the correct, most accurate, most interesting, only-one-that-matters perspective," to which he adds, simply, "Woof!"

About FACE Foundation
Established in 2006, The Foundation for Animal Care and Education (FACE) is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) public charity, whose mission is to enhance and preserve the quality of life of animals by providing access to necessary medical care and education. Based on established criteria, FACE provides financial grants to animal owners who are unable to partially or fully cover the cost of their pet's emergency or critical care.

As many people today experience increasing economic challenges, their pets are suffering too. The number of people who cannot afford critical medical care for their sick or injured pet is growing at an alarming rate.

In what is being labelled as 'economic euthanasia,' these beloved companions are being euthanized because their owners cannot afford the often unexpected cost of treatment needed to save their lives. The FACE Foundation was created to address this tragedy. What started out as a beautiful vision to stop the surrender and euthanasia of beloved family pets, has become a supportive center where families in crisis can get a helping hand to save their pets' lives.

The FACE Foundation is the first of its kind in San Diego County. While there are wonderful charitable groups focused on finding homes for pets without families, there are no other organizations that are singularly dedicated to saving the lives of pets that are already in loving homes, but whose families cannot pay for all or part of the emergency or critical care they need to survive.
FACE relies solely on donations to continue its mission of providing access to life saving veterinary care and to enhance and preserve the quality of life for these loving pets.
