ST LOUIS, MO, September 17, 2010

Dellon Institutes helped a woman defend her local club golf championship after sensation was restored to her foot. Neuropathy of unknown cause had slowed her down, but her game picked up, her score dropped and she won the championship three months after having surgery by Dr A. Lee Dellon. The surgery, which decompressed nerves in leg and foot, relieved her pain and restored sensation and balance to her foot that had been compromised by her neuropathy.

The most common peripheral nerve problem in the United States of America is neuropathy. This can be due to diabetes, chemotherapy, heavy metal poisoning, but often its cause is unknown (idiopathic). Just as decompression of nerves in the hand, in the carpal and cubital tunnel, can relieve symptoms in the upper extremity, decompression of nerves in the leg, ankle, and foot can relieve symptoms in the lower extremity in 80% of patients with neuropathy who have these compressions. These procedures were pioneered at the Dellon Institutes.

The Dellon Institutes for Peripheral Nerve Surgery owe their name to A. Lee Dellon, M.D., PhD, an accomplished Plastic Surgeon and Hand Surgeion, as well as a Professor of Plastic Surgery and Neurosurgery at the prestigious Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland. He has received a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Hand Surgery and is Board Certified in Plastic Surgery. He is also Past-President of the American Society of Peripheral Nerve Surgery.
