New Zimmer Knee Recall Lawsuits Allege Higher Risks of Injury

According to a study published in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery and in the New York Times, between 10% and 38% of Zimmer NexGen patients' knee replacements loosened within two years.

2011-06-22
SAUSALITO, CA, June 22, 2011 (Press-News.org) Recently-filed Zimmer knee recall lawsuits allege that the medical devices are defective as they have a higher risk of loosening or failing altogether. These issues are affecting thousands of knee replacement patients whose options may be limited to a second revision surgery or living with constant pain - neither of which is acceptable.

Zimmer NexGen Lawsuits Allege Company Downplayed Risks

Hundreds of already filed Zimmer NexGen lawsuits generally allege that the company's artificial replacement knee system (also known as a Total Knee Arthroplasty or TKA system) has resulted in the need to undergo a second, painful and expensive revision surgery, because the medical devices loosened or failed - many times within two years after surgery. Several new Zimmer knee lawsuits filed in May 2011 make similar claims and further allege that Zimmer knew about higher risks of injury, but failed to warn consumers.

Patients who have suffered Zimmer NexGen Knee System injuries are angry - and rightfully so. Unlike purchasing a defective product at a department store, Zimmer patients do not have the option of just "returning" the product. Many will have to undergo additional surgeries, take more time off work and put their lives "on hold" for even longer than they had originally anticipated.

Zimmer knee injury lawyers say that patients wouldn't be facing these problems if the manufacturer hadn't given the impression that these products were safe - even though clinical data showing otherwise had emerged. In fact, according to a studies published in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery and in the New York Times, between 10% and 38% of Zimmer NexGen patients knee replacements loosened within two years - and more than half of those resulted in the need for an additional revision surgery.

Many Zimmer knee lawsuits allege that the company downplayed these risks in order to obtain a greater market share in an industry which, according to the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, will see an estimated need for three million knee replacements every year by 2030.

Filing a Zimmer Knee Replacement Lawsuit

If you have a Zimmer NexGen knee replacement product such as an MIS Tibia, a CR-Flex, an LPS-Flex or a Gender Solutions High-Flex and have experienced loosening, failure or pain, you may be entitled to compensation for your injuries including lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering.

Zimmer Holdings Inc., which reported revenue of $4.22 billion in fiscal 2010, is currently defending hundreds of these lawsuits. More are expected to be filed this year - especially after the company suspended sales of tibial components used in its knee replacement system in September 2010 due to high failure rates. Contact an experienced Zimmer knee injury lawyer today to find out more about the ongoing litigation to discuss your situation with someone who understands what you've gone through and determine what course of action - if any - is in your best interest.
