RALEIGH, NC, July 07, 2011 (Press-News.org) One of the Southeast's preeminent fine art galleries, Gallery C will be relocating from Ridgewood shopping center to Blount Street Commons in downtown Raleigh. Since 1985, Gallery C has been instrumental in North Carolina's art scene featuring contemporary artists as well as historically important North Carolina art, Haitian art, folk art, animation art and antique prints.
The new gallery will be located at the corner of Blount and Peace streets in the Historic Russ-Edwards House c. 1901. The property has served as the development and sales office of Blount Street Commons Redevelopment project which is creating a rebirth of one of Raleigh's most prestigious historic streets and neighborhoods. Located just blocks from the Governor's Mansion, the Capital, and the museums, the neighborhood vision is focused around integrating 25 historic homes, dating from the late 1800s, with newer urban living concepts. The new space will allow owner Charlene Ferrell Newsom to expand the gallery's services and to feature outdoor art while providing an aesthetically prominent anchor to the Blount Street Commons project.
When undertaking the monumental task of relocating such a staple of North Carolina's rich cultural history, Newsom knew she had better find the right space. To do just that, she took the advice of a long time real estate investor and friend who referred her to Eddie Coleman, CCIM and his firm Coleman & Associates. The firm, located in the heart of Glenwood South, has long been a champion of downtown Raleigh and the Coleman's have lived Downtown in Oakwood since the mid 1980's.
On behalf of Newsom and Gallery C, Coleman, along with associates, Win Coleman, CCIM and Lucas Kinnin identified the property and negotiated the acquisition, which happened to be located in their backyard as both Win and Lucas have grown up in Oakwood. "We feel very strongly that we've helped Gallery C acquire an outstanding Downtown Raleigh - location in Blount Street Commons and believe the Gallery's presence can play a pivotal role in the continuing revitalization of Blount St. and Downtown. Beautiful art always creates positive energy," stated Coleman. Coleman & Associates has played a significant role in the renaissance of downtown Raleigh, helping businesses such as Sullivan's, Capital Club 16, Battistella's New Orleans Restaurant, Myriad Media Designs, Health and Harmony, Booth Custom Jewelry and numerous others acquire locations.
Gallery C will open their new location in early June and Newsom is excited about becoming part of the fabric of downtown and continuing to contribute to its growing art scene. "As a North Carolina art historian, I am thrilled about moving our gallery to Russ-Edwards House and believe this historic Blount street venue will provide a perfect complement to the art and artists we represent as well as a wonderful place to visit. Our friends and clients will now be able to enjoy some of the state's finest art in an architecturally and aesthetically beautiful Historic home which enjoys much of the same rich history and beauty as the art and artists we represent," said Newsom.
Besides the display and sale of beautiful art, Gallery C also provides custom framing and appraisals and Newsom represents many of NC's most prominent living and deceased artists. An authority on North Carolina Art History, Newsom specializes in historically important North Carolina art from the 19th and 20th centuries.
