Guess the Grape - A Blind Wine Tasting and Gala Dinner Will be Hosted by St. Louis Society for the Blind and Visually Impaired on October 23

Annual Blind Wine Tasting with Dancing, Silent Auction and Delicious Three-Course Meal is a Popular Fundraising Event

2010-09-21
ST. LOUIS, MO, September 21, 2010 (Press-News.org) "Guess the Grape," a popular annual dinner event featuring a champagne reception and flights of different wines tasted in a "blind" format, will be hosted by the St. Louis Society for the Blind and Visually Impaired on Saturday, October 23, 2010, at Patty Long's River Bottom Saloon in St. Louis' Soulard neighborhood.

Ron Hampp, Chair of the Society's Board of Directors, says, "'Guess the Grape' promises all guests an evening of fun and entertainment with excellent wines, a delicious gourmet dinner, dancing and socializing. It is among the most popular of all the Society's fundraising dinner events, and has become a tradition in greater St. Louis."

The evening will feature a sommelier who will "guide" guests through the tasting, followed by a three-course dinner and live music for dancing. A silent auction of premium items and collectables, wine-related and not wine-related, will be part of the entertainment.

"Guess the Grape" begins with the champagne reception at 6:30 pm at Patty Long's River Bottom Saloon at 112 Sidney Street in the historic Soulard neighborhood. Tickets are $125 per person, $60 of which is tax-deductible, and can be purchased online by clicking "Guess the Grape" in the Quick Links section of the Society's website http://slsbvi.org. An array of "Guess the Grape" sponsorship options to generate recognition for participating organizations and individuals are available.

Society President David Ekin, ACSW, LCSW, says, "In 2011 we will celebrate a full century of providing programs and services for visually impaired and blind people, and their families, in metro St. Louis and southwestern Illinois since the Society's origin in 1911. 'Guess the Grape' is a prelude to those centennial events, and we welcome people in all walks of life to join us for the celebration.

"We are very proud of our heritage of community service as a not-for-profit service organization, and we are extremely thankful for all who support our work and enable us to advance our work in years ahead," Ekin added.

The Society for the Blind and Visually Impaired enhances independence, empowers individuals and enriches the lives of people who are blind or visually impaired including children, adults, and their families. Its caring, qualified staff provides specialized vision rehabilitation, adaptive education, assistive technology and support services.

The Society serves an increasing number of older adults who are newly visually impaired or blind due to age-related eye conditions with home-based services, specialized agency services and community activities. It also renders services to school-age students at school districts in Illinois and Missouri. It is the only agency of its kind serving greater St. Louis, and the second oldest of its kind west of the Mississippi River.
