CLEARWATER, FL, November 21, 2011 (Press-News.org) Keeping Us Safe is pleased to announce that The Villas of Belleair has been selected the host the 2012 Inaugural Class of the "Beyond Driving with Dignity" Professional Certification program, scheduled for January 19, 2012.
The "Beyond Driving with Dignity" Professional Certification program is a training program designed to arm qualifying professionals with the tools necessary to help older drivers and their families work through the complicated, sensitive and often-times emotional issue of age-related diminishing driving skills.
Graduates of the program will then be well-suited to provide older drivers and their families with a very specific program that will help them make appropriate decisions on how to keep the older driver safe as he or she progresses through the natural aging process.
The "Beyond Driving with Dignity" Professional Certification program is designed to be a common-sense approach to help facilitate (and often times mediate!) rational, driving-related solutions based on tangible facts and personal observations. "Beyond Driving with Dignity; The workbook for the families of older drivers" serves as the foundation of the certification program.
According to the Florida Department of Elder Affairs, Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties are two of the State's top 10 counties with a population of adults over the age of 60. "The goal of the Beyond Driving with Dignity program is to help keep seniors independent and driving for as long as possible, but when in the interest of safety a driving retirement becomes appropriate, we help the individual make a smooth transition from the driver's seat to the passenger seat" says Matt Gurwell, Founder & CEO of Keeping Us Safe.
The Villas of Belleair were selected to host the training session because they have been recognized as an elite senior service provider in the greater Tampa/Clearwater area. Gurwell added "The Villas of Belleair provide a very high level of professional care to their residents in the areas of memory and Parkinson's care, both of which can be debilitating to an older driver".
"Beyond Driving with Dignity" professionals receive annual in-service trainings and are required to meet strict standards of professionalism to maintain their certification. For more information on the program visit http://www.keepingussafe.org.

Rivers may aid climate control in cities
2011-11-21
Speaking at the URSULA (Urban River Corridors and Sustainable Living Agendas) Conference, in Sheffield, Dr Abigail Hathway, of the University of Sheffield, will demonstrate how rivers can cool their local environment. Urban areas suffer increased temperatures as a result of traffic, air-conditioning systems and modern building materials which can absorb and re-radiate heat from the sun.
Water produces a cooling microclimate, absorbing some of this excess heat, helping cities stay cool. As scientists learn more about these microclimates they can start to understand how ...

2011-11-21
This press release is available in German.
Flies are real flight artists, although they only have small wings compared to their body size. Scientists at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry in Martinsried near Munich, Germany, recently identified the genetic switch that regulates the formation of flight muscles. "The gene spalt is essential for the generation of the ultrafast super muscles," emphasizes Frank Schnorrer, head of the research group 'Muscle Dynamics'. Friends with benefits
2011-11-21
Human relationships are intense and long lasting, and differ in a number of ways from those of our fellow mammals. However, we still have little idea of what motivates us to continue to invest a considerable proportion of our energy and time in such relationships. A new study suggests that unlike rodents, which have been the focus of studies to date, we, along with our fellow primates, rely on endorphin rewards to motivate us to maintain our complex relationship networks. This new study argues that, while oxytocin and vasopressin have a role to play in the initial stages ...

Nudity tunes up the brain
2011-11-21
Researchers at the University of Tampere and the Aalto University, Finland, have shown that the perception of nude bodies is boosted at an early stage of visual processing. The research was funded by the Academy of Finland.
Most people like to look at pictures of nude or scantily clad human bodies. Looking at nude bodies is sexually arousing, and a nude human body is a classic subject in art. Advertising, too, has harnessed half-clothed models to evoke positive images about the products advertised. Brain imaging studies have localized areas in the brain which are specialized ...
