Based on a popular Christmas storybook, a cute plush elf at Brush Pediatric Dentistry is said to have spontaneously invaded the dental practice. Dr. Miranda Albert, pediatric dentist at Brush, explains to patients that she found Toothpick perched on a dental light one morning, and he told her he would keep an eye on the children by day and visit Santa at night. Although little ones can be apprehensive about visiting the dentist, their eyes light up when they learn that Dr. Albert has a special elf visitor from the North Pole!

The idea of using an elf to provide a fun dental experience arises from a Christmas tradition Dr. Albert used to practice, where she would tell her patients that "Santa Cameras" in her office were reporting back to the North Pole. Dr. Albert believes that Toothpick does a good job of helping children feel at ease in the dental chair. The Brush staff love to tell stories they created about Toothpick to entertain patients; for example, one popular characteristic Toothpick possesses is his ability to "fly" on toy helicopters in the office.

About Dr. Miranda Albert, DDS, MS

Dr. Miranda Albert is a board certified pediatric dentist and earned her dental degree at the University of Michigan. She completed a two-year residency in pediatric dentistry before she earned a Master of Oral Sciences degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago, where her research focus was infant oral healthcare. After completing her training at UIC, Dr. Albert became the director of a dental clinic located on the south side of Chicago, helping children with limited access to dental care.
