Dallas Pastor Ed Young Sees Teachings Affirmed in New Marriage Study

A new study shows that intimacy and quality time together are vital for married couples to enjoy long-term happiness--a finding that highlights the teachings of Dallas minister Ed Young.

NEW YORK, NY, May 21, 2012

For some pastors and religious leaders, the topic of sex is more or less off-limits; for others, it comes loaded with political implications. Dallas pastor Ed Young, meanwhile, has long viewed sex from a perspective that is at once biblical and practical. In fact, a common topic in his Dallas ministry is that of sex's important role within a marriage--a role that is underscored in a surprising new study published by the Huffington Post.

The study offers evidence to support the idea that couples must actively work to cultivate happy married relationships. Specifically, couples who spend regular time together throughout the week--time away from the children, and also away from household chores--enjoy a much higher degree of satisfaction in the bedroom. And happiness in the sexual realm translates into happiness throughout the marriage.

These findings underscore what Ed Young has long taught, and what he crystallizes in his just-released new book, Sexperiment. The book, directed at Christian married couples, explores the link between marital intimacy and overall marital happiness, arguing, from a biblical and pastoral standpoint, for the importance of married couples sustaining a robust sex life.

Ed Young is not the only pastor to take on this topic in recent months. Mark Driscoll and many others have also penned books about sex within a marriage, but Young's Sexperiment has avoided controversy where some of the others have not. In fact, his book is noteworthy in large part for its practical, pragmatic focus. Ed Young offers his readers advice on how to keep married intimacy passionate, creative, and frequent.

But Ed Young's Sexperiment is more than just an advice book. As its title suggests, it also calls readers to a sexual experiment--specifically, urging married couples to have sex together every day for a week, and to evaluate the impact it has on their marriage.

The Dallas pastor writes that, while sex is far from the only important facet of a healthy marriage, it is important, and offers numerous benefits. The book explains that some of these benefits include stronger lines of communication, higher standards of purity, a greater sense of unity, and a clearer understanding of God's purpose for marriage.

Sexperiment is meant to be read primarily by husbands and wives together, but the book is also useful as a teaching resource for church-wide discussion groups and even for Sunday School classes. Young penned the new book alongside his wife and ministry partner, Lisa Young.
