Ten Degrees Cooler Upstairs Even On Really Hot Days: The Only All-American Made Fan

Attic fans neutralize the source of upstairs heat so families can be cool and comfortable all summer while using far less electricity. Typical savings are up to 30 percent on air-conditioning costs.

2012-05-21
CHICAGO, IL, May 21, 2012 (Press-News.org) The epic number of record high temperatures across the United States this year has led to predictions of a hot summer, which means high energy bills.

Even during moderately warm summers, however, air-conditioning costs can be quite significant. But there is an easy way to slash electric bills without suffering through uncomfortable evenings. An attic fan is a simple and inexpensive method of cooling a home.

Attic fans neutralize the source of upstairs heat so families can be cool and comfortable all summer while using far less electricity. Typical savings are up to 30 percent on air-conditioning costs.

According to the National Bureau of Standards, 'attics can be 40°F hotter than outside air.' In homes without an attic fan the attic temperatures can reach 150ºF and air conditioners work up to 50 percent more.

"An attic fan is installed on the roof near the top where the heat collects," said Jeff Tideman, the JetFanMan. "It turns on-and-off automatically with a special thermostat and blows out all the super-hot attic air so the attic stays cooler. There's no other way to reliably and sufficiently ventilate an attic when the sun is beating down on a house."

Tideman and his crew have installed more than 15,000 attic fans since 1983. He created the American-made Jet Fan because the existing attic fan motors were too loud and used too much electricity.

The super-quiet Jet Fan motor is twice as efficient and lasts 15 years, not 5 years or less like many attic fans. It's maintenance-free and the housing lasts forever. The fan takes only two hours to install, uses less than 300 watts, comes with a limited lifetime warranty and adds resale value to a home.

Built to survive high winds, the fan's caps are all metal and rustproof, with stainless steel bolts that don't leave rust streaks down a roof. The water-proof, aluminum flashing is wider, thicker and more reliable, and fits in with the roof shingles. A heavy-duty screen prevents birds or squirrels from getting into the attic.

These simple, yet often overlooked, appliances lower upstairs' room temperatures by 10ºF and lengthen roof life by keeping shingles cooler. Plus, fans with an optional humidistat can keep attics dry during winter months. Humidity in an attic can cause frost and ice to accumulate on roof-framing members, causing mold, mildew and rot, which damages a home's framing.

"Savings, after the cost of the fan, are realized in any home in one or two seasons," Tideman stated. "In addition to the savings is the added comfort."

Jet Fan can be purchased online at http://www.JetFanUSA.com. Homeowners living in the greater Chicago or Naperville IL area can have Tideman install it for them, too.

Jet Fan is the only All American Made attic fan in the United States. It was invented by Jeff Tideman and is sold via http://www.JetFanUSA.com. Since 1983, Tideman and his crew have installed more than 15,000 attic fans. He created the American-made Jet Fan because the existing attic fan motors were too loud and used too much electricity.

Ultra-short laser pulses for science and industry

Ultra-short laser pulses for science and industry
2012-05-21
Laser technology uses light. Light can be rapidly and precisely deflected, shaped and focused. If we pulse laser light and reduce pulse duration more and more, the laser tool works even more precisely. A benefit: The material being processed heats up less and less. High-power, ultra-short pulses, then, are the ideal solution for medical applications, in brain surgery for instance, as the cerebral membrane is not damaged. Or for removing tumor tissue thereby conserving the surrounding tissue and blood vessels. This precision technology is also valued in the processing of ...

Functional coatings from the plasma nozzle

Functional coatings from the plasma nozzle
2012-05-21
When manufacturing products, the coating technology is a key innovation driver for almost all areas of daily life – for example, for making scratch-proof displays for smart phones or anti-bacterial surfaces in refrigerators. Other coatings protect components from corrosion or aging, for example in a solar cell module or a car engine, without the end user noticing their existence. In industry today, wet chemical processes or vacuum plasma processes are primarily used for coating applications. Both have drawbacks. Vacuum units are expensive, limited to smaller components ...

Improved lubrication without oil

Improved lubrication without oil
2012-05-21
Metalworking plays a key role in industry. Drilling, milling, turning and grinding operations all use lubricants to prevent work pieces and tools from overheating and from excess wear. Standard lubricants today are based on mineral oil. This has drawbacks: fossil mineral oils come from finite resources, transport relatively little heat away from the work piece, are harmful to health and are flammable. All of this calls for extreme technical efforts, for occupational safety, fire safety and disposal, for example. So there's a need for alternative lubricants. Renewable ...
