Beaumont Hotel History
Built in 1886 and opened in 1887 to attract gold and silver mine investors, this lovely old hotel (the only luxury hotel in Ouray) has welcomed such famous guests as U.S. Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and Herbert Hoover, King Leopold of Belgium, Chipeta, widow of Ute Chief Ouray, French actress Sarah Bernhardt, American actress Angie Dickenson and (most recently) media megastar, Oprah Winfrey. It has served as the social and business hub of the community and is known as the 'Flagship of the San Juans'. The hotel sat empty for decades and was scheduled for demolition. Recent restorations modernized the entire structure to meet the needs of today's traveler while preserving the property's historical grandeur.

Ouray Ore House Bar & Grille
The restaurant is located in the old Melodrama Theatre of the hotel and has a historical mining theme. It offers freshly made, wholesome American-Style Cuisine including steaks, seafood, sandwiches, salads, nightly fresh fish specials, vegetarian choices, gluten-free options and as many locally-sourced ingredients as possible. You can choose from one of the Western Slope's largest wine selections with over 300 vintages from around the world.

Luella's Lounge
Located on the second floor of the hotel, the elegant wine and martini bar is named after the last known resident of the Beaumont Hotel before it was closed to the public for 39 years. Dubbed "Ouray's Best Kept Secret", it has a classy, exclusive, speakeasy type ambiance and is perfect for private parties. "The wine list is incredible", says Jennifer Leaver, one of the owners.

Beaumont Spa
The luxurious Spa on the third floor is located where the servants' quarters existed in the olden days and now you can see the mountaintops from every massage table, pedicure chair and even from the private hot tub in the sauna room.

Skp2 activates cancer-promoting, glucose-processing Akt

2012-05-28
HOUSTON –HER2 and its epidermal growth factor receptor cousins mobilize a specialized protein to activate a major player in cancer development and sugar metabolism, scientists report in the May 25 issue of Cell. This chain of events, the scientists found, promotes Herceptin resistance in breast cancer and activation of glucose metabolism (glycolysis), which cancer cells primarily rely on to fuel their growth and survive. Their research focused on Skp2 E3 ligase, a protein that binds to and tags other proteins with molecules called ubiquitins, in this case to activate ...
