United Water Restoration Offers Services as Summer Storm Season Begins in Earnest

As summer kicks off, so does hurricane season. Tropical Depression Beryl recently damaged 64 homes in Peletier, N.C. United Water Restoration Group has helped many families repair their homes after damaging floods and storms swept through the area.

NEW YORK, NY, June 28, 2012

Hurricane season is making an impact in the United States with its latest tropical depression, Beryl, which created tornadoes that ripped through Peletier, N.C. last month and damaged 64 homes, according to an MSNBC article. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, said JoAnn Smith, director of Carteret County Emergency Services. United Water Restoration Group has helped residents clean up messes caused by tornados and other natural disasters for years.

The National Weather Service estimated a tornado caused the damage in Peletier, which is about 100 miles southeast of Raleigh. Within hours, Beryl formed a twister with 105 mph winds that blew off roofs and knocked down trees in Holly Hill, S.C. WCSC-TV reported no injuries, but Beryl was not done causing havoc. The storm headed out to sea and dumped six inches of rain from eastern North Carolina to southeast Virginia. In North Carolina, school days were shortened on the coast because of severe flood threats.

Beryl headed to Jacksonville, Fla. on Memorial Day, but was reduced from a tropical storm to a tropical depression with winds of only 35 mph. Beryl then piled on 10 inches of rain in Sewanne County, Fla., while other close areas got 3 to 6 inches. United Water Restoration Group is prepared to help residents if a storm causes any water, fire, flood, or mold damages.

"Hurricane season is a regular occurrence in the state of Florida and many homes are damaged each year," said Amanda Hakimi, United Water Restoration Group Account Specialist. "United Water Restoration is prepared to offer experienced services 24 hours a day, 365 days per year."

Forecasters expected up to four inches of rain to fall on South Carolina after Beryl moved through Florida. For South Carolina, rain was likely welcome since the state had a warm winter and dry spring. Charleston is experiencing quite a drought with rainfall four inches below normal this year. Beryl headed to Georgia, but only brought a few inches of rain to the state.

Beryl is the second named tropical system of the 2012 Atlantic Hurricane season, even though hurricane season didn't start until June 1. United Water Restoration Group urges Florida residents to be prepared this hurricane season.

"If your home is affected this season, call an experienced water mitigation expert, who will be able to walk you through the process of restoring your property, and will work with your insurance carrier," Hakimi said. "United Water Restoration will take care of Florida residents from start to finish."
