NEW HOPE, PA, July 08, 2012 (Press-News.org) Next weekend marks a first for one of Buck's County's most anticipated summer events. The Bucks County Audubon Society's annual barn tour (now in its 13th year) is taking on a new dimension as it launches The Art of the Barn, an art show and sale featuring popular local artists combined with a tour of the region's distinctive barns.
Presented by Paradise Energy Solutions, The Art of the Barn will give patrons a unique weekend experience that displays local artists' works in the scenic backdrops that inspired them. The event will begin Friday evening, July 13, at the Honey Hollow Visitor Center in New Hope, with a lecture on barn history and architecture by Spencer Saunders of Barnology, a company that specializes in the adaptive reuse of barns, outbuildings and barn implements. The tour, taking place Saturday and Sunday, July 14 and 15, will feature some of the region's most historic and extraordinary examples of barn architecture, ranging from a 1700s log barn to a luxurious modern renovation.
Featured Artists
Each barn on the tour will host an artist or artisan, who will exhibit as well as meet with collectors to answer questions and offer insights into the artwork. Each participating artist has agreed to donate 25 percent of sale proceeds to the Bucks County Audubon Society. They include sculptors Frank Aster, Ron Bevilacqua, Justin Long, Densaburou Oku and Dana Stewart; painters Harry Boardman, Peg Cavanaugh, Katharine Kreig and Mark Pullen; photographer Randy Bye, printmaker Joanne Isaac and plaster artisan Gabriel Franklin.
Bike Tour
Another first for this years' tour is the inclusion of a bike route. A map specifically designed for those who prefer touring on two wheels will be provided to guide cyclists through the 31-mile route, which winds through some of the most picturesque countryside found anywhere in the world.
Farm to Table Reception
The Castles in the Fields reception, a traditional element of the BCAS barn tour, will offer farm-to-table fare featuring the flavors of Bucks County. This year's gala, taking place at 7 pm Saturday July 14, is being staged by David Fierabend and Nancy Levie of Groundswell Design Group, and will present local delicacies from Blue Moon Acres Micro Greens, oWowCow Creamery and J Scones in a menu created by Dish Catering. Brandywide Jazz will provide music.
Tickets for the Barn Tour/Art Show can be purchased at McCoole's at the Historic Red Lion Inn in Quakertown, at Wehrung's Home and Lumber in Ottsville or at http://www.bcas.org. Tickets for the lecture and art preview and the Castles in the Fields reception can be purchased at http://www.bcas.org.
