ALTON, UK, August 04, 2012 (Press-News.org) The event saw nine students from Treloar's school in Hampshire take part in various events over the weekend of the 14th and 15th and July and scoop up many medals along the way.
Treloar's school and college is a special education facility, dedicated to providing great education to those with physical disabilities. They are especially well known for their great sporting achievements and this year has been no exception with both students and staff winning awards for their supporting achievements.
The students were lucky on the weekend as the weather was kind; however a heavy rainfall the night before meant that the ground was not particularly wheelchair friendly and the field somewhat resembled a mud bath. This did not squash the fighting spirit of the students who, out of 23 events entered, went on to win 20 medals between them thirteen of which were gold.
Five of the students also had the added bonus of achieving their personal best in grip ball throw and the club throw.
The South East team came fifth out of the ten regions that were represented. This showed a great achievement as their team of 19 was very small compared to the other who had teams of up to 60 athletes.
The weekend was hailed a great success with parents, carers and PE staff all working hard together and having lots of fun in the process.
It was the perfect way to get us in the Olympic and Paralympic spirit and we look forward to seeing what students achieve over the summer!
