WYOMING, MI, August 22, 2012 (Press-News.org) Metro Health Hospital announced today that Dr. David Duffey is the hospital's new chief medical officer.
Duffey brings more than 17 years of experience to his new role. He is responsible for guiding and advocating for a medical staff of more than 500 physicians. He replaces Dr. Yisrael M. Safeek, who served as interim CMO while Metro Health conducted a national search.
Prior to joining Metro Health, Duffey served as chair and medical director of quality, safety and clinical innovation at Spectrum Health Medical Group and the division chief of pediatric hospitalists at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital. He has also held positions as director of pediatric informatics for Helen Devos Children's Hospital, medical director and president at Principal Health PHO, and chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Holland Community Hospital, among others.

Duffey has served as a board member of SHMG, an assistant professor at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, clinical and faculty preceptor at Grand Valley State University.
He was named Outstanding General Educator by the Grand Rapids Medical Education Partners and received the Community Service Award from Holland Community Hospital Foundation. He is trained in healthcare delivery improvement and is certified in patient safety. Duffey has presented numerous healthcare topics, including hospital pediatrics and quality and safety in healthcare.
He holds a bachelor of arts from Kalamazoo College and a doctor of medicine from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is a member of the American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Osteopathic Association and the American College of Physician Executives.
A native of West Michigan, he resides in Ada with his wife, Sandra Rose, and their children.
