Bathurst Champion Greg Murphy Puts Rookies on Notice

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, August 23, 2012

After all drivers failed to get within 5 seconds of Rick Kelly's time on the motorkhana elimination challenge, a stern Murphy told the drivers they need to improve their skill level and show more commitment to the competition.

"Overall to be honest, all you guys need to step it up, there is opportunities for all of you here to be racing at the highest level, and I don't reckon there was as much commitment as what's required," Murphy cautioned the drivers.

A jump-start and slow lap times saw Queensland's Ryal Harris land in the bottom three alongside the fitness-challenged Andrew MacLean, but in a shock elimination it was CAMS rising star recipient Jack Le Brocq who was sent home.

"My jaw just dropped to the floor, such a competitive and fast and talented kid has just been kicked out of the race," said a stunned Glen Wood.

An equally jolted Le Brocq was obviously disappointed, "I'm actually quite upset and devastated that I have to go home before getting the opportunity to actually get in the car and prove myself in a V8 Supercar."

A less surprised Ed Sevadjian expressed his dislike for the rising star.

"Jack, Glen's boyfriend deserves to go home. I didn't really think that Jack was taking it all that seriously, I don't think it was a huge loss to Kelly Racing," says Sevadjian.

The competition took on a notably more serious tone this week as the competitors were pitted against each other in a last man standing fitness reward challenge.

The painstakingly conscientious Jesse Dixon was keen to prove that red does in fact go faster by taking out the first round's beep test.

Round two saw the competition's youngest competitor Andre Heimgartner set a new Kelly Racing record by holding the plank for just over 16 minutes, beating Rick Kelly's own record by 60 seconds.

In the third and final round, sales consultant Glen Wood narrowly beat Heimgartner in the 20kg weight hold to take out the fitness reward.

Six competitors remain in the competition and they must all lift their game if they want to stay there.

With the chance to drive at this year's Bathurst 1000 in the Shannon's V8 Supercar, the race is well and truly underway!
