Kaufman Trailers Responds to Towing Safety Tips

A recent survey shows that many motorists who practice towing have little experience with trailers, or with trailer safety--a finding that has won the attention of Kaufman Trailers.

2012-09-05
NEW YORK, NY, September 05, 2012 (Press-News.org) Though the summer season is in its final stretch, plans for vacations, get-aways, and holiday travel are still very much in effect. A British publication recently published the results of a new survey taken by Nissan; of those surveyed, Nissan found that one in five were currently planning a "caravan" or camping holiday--meaning that many of these motorists will be towing equipment or trailers behind their vehicles. The survey also reveals that many of these aspiring towers are largely unfamiliar with trailer use, including the proper safety precautions. The study has won the attention of Kaufman Trailers, a leader in the U.S. trailer sales industry.

Kaufman Trailers has responded to the Nissan study with a new statement to the press, in which the company exhorts all trailer users to study up on trailer safety guidelines, as well as legal regulations. "There are many who have never used a trailer before, who believe that towing equipment or trailers behind their car or truck is a simple and straightforward matter," says the Kaufman Trailers press release. "In reality, there are many practical concerns, ranging from safety regulations to local laws and ordinances."

The Nissan study itself provides a number of invaluable trailer safety tips; it also echoes Kaufman Trailers' exhortation to check local laws that govern towing and trailer use. "This is especially true where parking is concerned," the Kaufman Trailers statement notes. "Different municipalities in the U.S. have different restrictions as far as where and for how long a trailer can be parked."

Many of the other tips offered by Nissan pertain to driving safely. Drivers are encouraged to allow for more time and space when they brake or accelerate, and also to use a lower gear when tackling steep inclines. Additionally, Nissan notes that different vehicles can tow different weights; vehicle owners can check their vehicle handbooks for precise weight limits.

The Nissan study finds that of those who embark on camping trips, towing trailers behind their vehicles, as many as 40 percent have never received any training with regard to safe towing practices.

Additionally, the study finds that roughly 20 percent of those planning to tow have only taken up towing in the past six months. "This is great news for those of us in the trailer industry, because it suggests increased interest in using this equipment," Kaufman Trailers offers. "However, it is also a reminder of how important it is to ensure that towing safety guidelines are well-known, and that appropriate training is available to those who need it."
