RentFoodBroke.com and BrokeLA.com Survive Drunken Beginning, Celebrate 2 Years of Success

RentFoodBroke.com of Los Angeles celebrates the second anniversary of its BrokeLA.com calendar this year.

LOS ANGELES, CA, September 21, 2012

RentFoodBroke.com and BrokeLA.com provide real-world education, advice, tips, and resources on everything from finding affordable medical care to the cheapest movie theaters around town, as well as a full calendar of free and low-cost events to meet the needs of Angelenos and visitors alike.

What started as a fanciful "Wouldn't it be cool if..." idea during a night of serious partying has become the ultimate resource for living life on a budget in the greater LA area. "Many people think up 'great' ideas when they're drunk," said Hanina Stettin, "Head Bum" and co-founder. "Very few spend the next few years building out the concept into a community resource. We might have gotten lucky with a dream team in the room, but we've worked really hard to meet the need we identified that fateful night. No matter your finances, having a life full of fun and support is achievable with the right intel."

Established the summer of 2009 by self proclaimed "bums"--organization development guru Hanina Stettin, graphic designer Hillel Smith, and film producer Shani Rotkovitz, along with computer programmer Ari Magder--RentFoodBroke debuted in beta with the blog, and launched the BrokeLA.com calendar the following summer. All events listed on the BrokeLA.com calendar are free or under $10 and include an array of one-off events such as comedy shows, concerts, movie screenings, and workshops around town, in addition to a complete and recurring listing of free museum days and farmers' markets.
