Kane Property Management: HOA Boards Serve Crucial Function

A recent article says that homeowners associations are often made out to be the bad guys, when in reality they are anything but; the article has won the affirmation of Kane Property Management.

2012-10-05
PHILADELPHIA, PA, October 05, 2012 (Press-News.org) Any time a skirmish or a controversy breaks out within a neighborhood or community, it is both easy and natural for residents to look for a scapegoat. In many cases, the scapegoat they find is the homeowners association, or, as the case may be, the condominium association or cooperative membership. These community government boards are often made out to be the bad guys, but, according to a recent article from the Columbia County News-Times, this assessment is usually unfair. In reality, the article notes, HOA boards and condo and cooperative associations are tasked with maintaining order and civility, which sometimes means that they must make decisions that are unpopular, but nevertheless right. The article has won the attention, and the affirmation, of Kane Property Management.

Kane Property Management is a company that provides management services to clients throughout the greater Chicago area, mostly focusing on condominiums, cooperatives and town home communities. The company is owned and operated by Dennis R. Kane, who brings to the business more than three decades in property management. Kane has responded to the new article with a statement to the press, affirming, the crucial role that the community association plays in so many neighborhoods across the country.

"Order has to be made of the disorder that so often crops up in residential communities," says Kane in his press statement. "When purchasing a unit in an HOA community, there is a responsibility the owner has to themselves as well as other community members to abide and comply with the Declarations & Bylaws and Rules & Regulations of an association."

Kane goes on to offer further insight into what all of this entails. "Uniformity and order must be maintained. You might like a red door on your unit and your neighbor might like blue, but the selection by the community is brown, and that must be maintained. Of course, there is nothing wrong with wanting to own a home with a red door, but that is a consideration that should be made before choosing to live in a neighborhood where rules are enforced, and where brown doors are mandatory. Uniformity is key in communities with HOA governance simply because it brings with it equality and fairness."

The article notes that many HOA board members are demonized simply for enforcing the rules. A resident might feel like he or she is being "picked on," but the association may simply be striving to ensure that all of the rules of the community are applied fairly and equally, across the entire area.

Kane Property Management offers services to HOA and condominium and cooperative associations zealous for maximizing day-to-day efficiency.
