NEW YORK, NY, October 12, 2012 (Press-News.org) Richard P. Brown, MD, a psychopharmacologist who integrates CAM (Complimentary and Alternative Medicine) into his treatments, will present an evening workshop on Friday, October 12, 2012, from 7 to 10 pm, at The New York Open Center, 22 E. 30th Street, New York, NY, 10016, entitled "Drug Free Approaches to Treating ADD/ADHD," for psychotherapists looking to complement their practices with herbs, nutrients, and mind-body techniques.
Dr. Richard P. Brown will share up-to-date information about a range of treatments for children and adults with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) including herbs such as rhodiola, ginkgo, ginseng and pycnogenol; nutrients such as picamilon, SAMe, fish oils, etc.; biofeedback (including cranial stimulators); and some mind-body practices including movement, breathing, and meditation, which Dr. Brown will briefly demonstrate. For each treatment he will describe doses, side effects, and interactions, as well as providing resources for further exploration.
The New York Open Center, considered "the largest urban holistic learning center in the U.S.," offers a broad range of body/mind/spirit studies that include yoga, reflexology, and distance healing. The Center also offers on-line classes. Tuition for the Friday evening workshop is $30 for members, $35 for non-members. The workshop, #12FP83M, is approved for CEU's. Dr. Brown is Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University in New York. He gives over 200 medical lectures every year, including full-day courses for the American Psychiatric Association and other professional groups, as well as workshops for non-profits such as Serving Those Who Serve in New York City. He is a certified teacher of Aikido (4th Dan), Yoga, Qi Gong, and meditation. His workshops have helped thousands of people deal with everyday stress and enabled survivors of trauma and mass disasters to recover their health and well-being.
