Exlar Linear Actuators Featured on USS Gerald R. Ford Advanced Weapons Elevators
2010-10-12
CHANHASSEN, MN, October 12, 2010 (Press-News.org) Exlar Corporation announces its award to provide linear actuators for Federal Equipment Company's Advanced Weapons Elevators (AWE) on the USS Gerald R. Ford Aircraft Carrier.

In Cincinnati, Ohio, Federal Equipment Company is manufacturing eleven state-of-the-art Advanced Weapons Elevators for the newest class of US Aircraft Carriers. With capacities up to 24,000 pounds and speeds up to 150 feet per minute, the elevators vastly improve payload capabilities over previously designed weapons handling systems. The next generation Aircraft Carrier Gerald R. Ford, also known as CVN-78, is a completely new design for Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding and the US Navy.

Exlar's GSM30 linear actuators are used to fire locking pins to keep the elevators in position at each deck level. These actuators combine a brushless servo motor, an inverted roller screw and an encoder/resolver feedback source into a single compact assembly, which eliminates the cost and complexity of a systems engineering approach, as all elements for producing linear motion have been properly matched and designed into the actuator. The brushless servo design of all GSM Series linear actuators allows them to be used in state-of-the art closed loop servo systems, where electronic control of positioning and velocity is required. In these systems, position feedback can be provided in a number of different forms to match customer specifications, including resolvers, encoders or internally mounted linear position feedback sensors.

The patented design of the GSM Series linear actuators employs an inverted roller screw mechanism to convert the rotary motion of the brushless motor into high speed, high thrust linear motion. This mechanism has a lead accuracy of 25mm/300mm for high precision operation and can also be supplied with zero backlash.

GSM actuators are suitable for use in many other demanding applications, including: automatic tool changers, dispensing, wire guiding, chip and wafer handling, robot manipulation, testing, web guidance, indexing material cutting, tension control, volumetric pumps, simulation testing, automated assembly, injection molding and riveting, as well as joining and fastening.

Exlar Corporation designs, manufactures and sells linear and rotary motion products worldwide. For general product information, contact Exlar Corporation, 1470 Lake Drive West, Chanhassen, MN 55317, phone 952-368-3434, and fax 952-368-4359. Visit our website at www.exlar.com.

High Performance Tritex II Series Electric Servo Valve Actuator Delivers Quick and Stable Response to Command Signal Changes

High Performance Tritex II Series Electric Servo Valve Actuator Delivers Quick and Stable Response to Command Signal Changes
2010-10-12
The Tritex II Series actuator provides an ideal solution for valve actuation applications by reducing under-performing control valves, which cost a typical process plant tens of thousands of dollars each year. To overcome this lack of performance, Exlar's Tritex II eliminates the use of pneumatic actuators and delivers small hysterisis and dead band, quick response to small signal changes and stable dynamic response. Available in both linear and rotary versions, the Tritex II can be mounted on any valve from any manufacturer. For precise valve control, the flow characteristic ...

Recent Reports Put Spotlight on Comprehensive Auto Insurance

2010-10-12
Recently released reports show that there were more than 2 million vehicle-deer collisions in the past two years and nearly 800,000 auto thefts that occurred in 2009, meaning that a huge amount of people have come across car-related financial hurdles that they may not have expected. Although not all automobile owners may know it, standard auto insurance liability policies are not likely to cover costs related to these types of incidents. Property damage liability policies required by most states generally provide no protection for the policyholder's property. Rather, ...
