Geneen Stuart: Growing Businesses Require HR Expertise
Geneen Stuart encourages business owners to implement human resources management as soon as their organizations can afford to do so.

Human resources is a major industry, one that sees to the ability of many companies to smoothly operate while ensuring that their clients and their employees are happy. In nearly every business, though, it is one of the last pieces of the organizational puzzle to fall into place. Recently, B2C ran an article that pinpoints when it is time to integrate human resources management into a business' operations. Geneen Stuart, a former human resources professional, agrees with the article that it is integral to create a human resources department as soon as the services of such a division are necessary. The article considers, first and foremost, the value that a human resources professional will provide to a growing business. It is important to note, Stuart agrees, that the functions this professional will carry out are different from the typical recruiting and training that can be handled by other members of the team. In general, a human resources professional will provide services that spearhead hiring, promotions, salary determination, performance reviews, data entry regarding personnel, records management, policy development, benefits, orientation, workers compensation, and visas, if there are any present in the company.
When these tasks prevent other professionals from finishing their work, or when team members are not qualified to handle them, Stuart and the article agree that it is probably time to call in a human resources employee.
Geneen Stuart explains: "When a business has sufficient revenue for human resources management, it is critical to include that resource in its business model. An organization's most important assets walk in and out of the door each day and having good human resources management can protect those assets. Human resources management is able to provide support for both supervisors and employees, and it can offer a competitive reward structure to help maintain talent. Most importantly, it can balance the needs of the employees with the initiatives that serve the best interest of the organization as a whole."
Stuart understands that, in many cases, the value of human resources departments is underestimated by individuals who work in other fields. In response to this, she notes that, without human resources professionals, many businesses would not be able to continue to work as efficiently or at as high of a volume, as team members would be called upon to spearhead tasks that are outside of their expertise.
