78% Of Dieters Fall For Common Weight Loss Myths, Survey Shows
A survey conducted by British based fitness instructor has revealed that 78% of dieters still fall for a number of common dieting myths.
CAMBRIDGE, ENGLAND, October 14, 2010
The study, conducted by speaking with 100 dieters both online and offline at local gyms and fitness centres, showed that a large number of people have set beliefs about dieting information, despite studies proving many of them to be myths."It's an interesting snapshot about the perceptions and beliefs that people have about weight loss", comments Dan. "I think it might even explain why some people struggle with their weight so much. In order to lose weight, you have to make sure that you're doing all the right things, and if you're doing the wrong things, it all becomes wasted energy."
The survey found that around 8 out of 10 people believed that a crash diet or starvation diet would help them to lose weight, while 74% of people believed that quitting smoking would cause them to gain weight.
88% of people believed that eating food late at night would cause them to gain weight, a belief which has proven to be incorrect.
"The concern is that people are wasting time doing things that won't actually help them", comments Dan. "The first week is crucial, because the boost that can come from losing weight in your first week can make all the difference."
"The negative effects of not losing weight at all can be devastating. People need good information, and they need to apply that good information properly if they want results."
