NORCROSS, GA, November 29, 2012 (Press-News.org) Gourmet coffee purveyor J. Martinez & Company would like to explain some of the differences between the world famous Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee and Jamaican High Mountain coffee.
The heights of the Jamaican Blue Mountains have three distinct levels. The highest elevations, above 5,500 feet, are a forest preserve and are prohibited for farming. Coffee grown below 1,500 feet is known as Jamaica Supreme or Jamaica Low Mountain coffee, and the region between 1,500 and 3,000 feet is where Jamaica High Mountain coffee is grown.
It is just above this region, at heights ranging from 3,000 to 5,500 feet, where the perfect growing conditions for Blue Mountain coffee exist: cool, very humid, and constantly misty. This gentle environment is the critical component for the creation of that smooth, mild taste, devoid of bitterness.
While growing conditions in the lower region where Jamaica High Mountain coffee is grown are still very good in comparison with non-Jamaican coffees, the difference between High Mountain and Blue Mountain is notable. The High Mountain beans result in a very fine brew that is still mild, complex, and aromatic, although it does not rival the supremacy of Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee.
"We really encourage all of our customers to try our Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee at least once," explains John Martinez, owner of J. Martinez & Company. "It's just an entirely different coffee experience; even those who are not big coffee drinkers will appreciate its exceptional quality."
Jamaican High Mountain is an excellent coffee, available from Martinez & Co. from the Baronhall Estate; however, the unique cultivation of Blue Mountain coffee, which Martinez & Co. carries from the Wallenford, Clifton Mount, and RSW Estates, is simply without comparison.
