Michael Cerrusi Encourages Use of Designated Drivers During the Holidays

The holidays often experience a spike in drunk driving deaths. Michael Cerrusi encourages motorists to use a designated driver when enjoying adult festivities.

2012-12-17
PHILADELPHIA, PA, December 17, 2012 (Press-News.org) Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is an organization that campaigns to educate individuals about the dangers of driving while under the influence. As the holidays quickly approach, MADD is reminding adults to secure a designated driver when enjoying adult beverages. Michael Cerrusi, owner of Cerrusi Driving School, agrees that the use of a designated driver is the best way for adults to avoid all of the horrific consequences that can stem from driving while intoxicated, including jail time and, in many cases, death.

The Sacramento Bee explains that deaths attributed to drunk driving rise during the holiday season: "Data show that the time period between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day includes some of the most dangerous days for drunk driving deaths, and the numbers are getting worse in recent years--as annual drunk driving deaths have decreased, there has been an increase in the proportion of drunk driving deaths around the holidays."

To raise awareness about the dangers of drunk driving, MADD has initiated its Tie One On For Safety campaign. The initiative encourages drivers to display red ribbons on their vehicles as a token of their promise to refrain from driving while under the influence.

Bill Windsor, who is the associate vice president of consumer safety for Nationwide Insurance, comments: "During a time of year when some may choose to 'tie one on' in celebration of the holidays, MADD and Nationwide encourage drivers to Tie One On For Safety by displaying a red ribbon as a visible reminder to keep our roads safe. It's about setting an example for your friends and family, co-workers and neighbors--if you drink, don't drive."

Michael Cerrusi applauds the efforts of MADD and Nationwide. He asserts that the actions of drunk drivers are not isolated, and they can cause a great deal of devastation to many people. "When a drunk driver takes to the road, they are putting their lives at risk," Cerrusi comments. "But they are also putting the lives of everyone else on the road at risk. From drivers in nearby lanes to their kids sleeping in the backseat, no one is safe when a drunk driver is on the road."

Cerrusi encourages friends and family members to go in together to get a cab or to take turns acting as designated drivers in order to ensure that the night does not end in a DUI--or worse.

ABOUT:

Michael Cerrusi founded Cerrusi Driving School in 1998. Since then, the organization has grown and now employs 20 professionals who offer high quality driving instruction. Michael Cerrusi is dedicated to teaching motorists the importance of defensive and safe driving techniques. Additionally, Michael Cerrusi is committed to educating student drivers regarding the dangers of driving under the influence. The individuals who turn to Cerrusi Driving School range from teenagers who have just earned their license to seasoned drivers looking to enhance their skills and decrease their insurance costs.
