Mobile Mammography Clinics to End

Funding Cuts Impact those who Need Services Most

SACRAMENTO, CA, December 29, 2012

Albie Aware Breast Cancer Foundation will host its final mammography clinic at Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services on December 28, 2012. St. Joseph's Medical Center in Stockton, who funds the mobile unit, will be retiring the program after tomorrow's event due to funding cuts. St. Joseph's Mobile Mammography Unit is a full-service mammography clinic on wheels and provides free mammograms at various health and family-related events throughout Northern California.

Albie Aware, Inc. launched its Breast Outreach and Support program in April of 2008 and began partnering with the Saint Joseph mobile unit. As a result hundreds of women have been tested, and lives have been saved. Saint Joseph's and Albie Aware have enjoyed a great relationship over the past five years and Albie Aware has continually increased the number of clinics each year despite many financial hurdles.

"We are so thankful for our long term partnership with Albie Aware," shares Kelly Siefkin, spokesperson for Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services. "Over the past four years, SFBFS and Albie Aware have partnered at a variety of events to provide hundreds of women from SFBFS' programs with an opportunity to be screened. Many of the individuals who visit SFBFS do not have health insurance and may otherwise go without any type of cancer screening."

Cindy Love, Executive Director of Albie Aware, sites that this is a huge loss for our community. "The mobile unit was actually able to go to the people in their own neighborhoods for the testing, and now that service will no longer be available". Albie Aware will continue its commitment to the community in providing free screenings.
