"Laying Souls to Rest in Vietnam" on January 15 "Why Shamanism Now?" Radio Show with Christina Pratt

On "Why Shamanism Now?", Christina Pratt talks to Edward Tick of Hanoi-based Soldier's Heart and other guests from Vietnam about using shamanic practices to assist with healing for both the living and the departed after the Vietnman War.

2013-01-13
JERSEY CITY, NJ, January 13, 2013 (Press-News.org) Streaming on the Co-Creator Radio Network on Tuesday, January 15, at 11 a.m. Pacific time/2 p.m. Eastern time, on her show "Why Shamanism Now?: A Practical Path to Authenticity," shaman and founder of the Last Mask Center for Shamanic Healing Christina Pratt talks to Vietnamese shaman, Nguyen Ngoc Hoai, who speaks to the souls of the dead in her country. In this way, Hoai and a Society of Shamans have located the remains of 10,000 soldiers, allowing the families of the dead to lay these wandering souls to rest.

In this episode of "Why Shamanism Now?" titled "Laying Souls to Rest in Vietnam," Pratt welcomes Haoi, Dr. Edward Tick and other Vietnamese guests. Dr. Tick, the author of War and The Soul, rediscovered the archetypal path necessary to heal the unique wounding of war by working effectively and deeply with traditional shamanic practices in the indigenous cultures of Greece, Native North America and Viet Nam. Through his non-profit organization, Soldier's Heart, Dr. Tick uses psycho-spiritual, cross-cultural, and international reconciliation practices to bring healing to veterans, communities and nations recovering from the traumas of war.

The show's guests from Vietnam talk to Pratt as part of a series of "Why Shamanism Now?" interviews sponsored by the Society of Shamanic Practitioners (SSP). Throughout this series, Pratt explores how contemporary shamans are meeting the challenge of their world where the relations of things—the living and the dead, the humans and nature, and the technological world and the spirit world—are profoundly out of balance. It is the ancient role of the shaman in all cultures to tend the balance of things, and the question is asked: how are these shamans meeting this extraordinary need today?

Christina Pratt is an authentic, non-traditional contemporary shaman. In practice since 1990, she specializes in mending the soul and transforming the parts of life that feel impossible. A teacher of exceptional clarity, humor, and inspiration, Pratt brings the power of shamanism into the practical grasp of anyone willing to take responsibility for improving the quality of their life. Her well-received book, An Encyclopedia of Shamanism (Rosen), is an 800-page, two-volume set with over 750 in-depth entries that clearly discuss the basic concepts of shamanism, methods, and traditions of over 50 different shamanic peoples. Pratt is the founder of the Last Mask Center for Shamanic Healing in Portland, OR, and New York, NY, creator of the original Foundations of Shamanism and Shamanic Healing course at the University of Minnesota, and a frequent and honored speaker for the American Holistic Medical Association.

Edward Tick, Ph.D., is Founding Director and Senior Clinician of Soldier's Heart: Veterans' Safe Return Programs. Honored for his groundbreaking work in the holistic and community-based healing of veterans and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Dr. Tick has been a psychotherapist for 33 years, specializing in working with veterans since the 1970s. He is the author of Sacred Mountain; The Practice Of Dream Healing; The Golden Tortoise; and the award-winning book War And The Soul. Website: http://www.soldiersheart.net

Nguyen Ngoc Hoai is a Vietnamese shaman and medium who uses ESP to communicate with the wandering souls of the dead. She had a life-threatening illness 15 years ago and came out of it with the ability to accurately see and hear the souls of the dead. She has located hundreds of MIA remains using her gifts. She has just published a book in Vietnam titled In Another World about her more interesting or difficult cases. She has located remains of Laotians and Indonesians as well as Vietnamese and is willing to work with American MIA families.

Nguyen Thi Minh Thai is professor of communication and journalism at University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Hanoi, leading culture and art critic in Vietnam, and a poet and author of many books.

Tran Dinh Song is the translator and representative for Soldier's Heart and a journey guide in Vietnam for 12 years. He is a cultural liaison, former teacher, humanitarian and healer.
