SHAKOPEE, MN, February 10, 2013 (Press-News.org) Whether currently performing for audiences around the world as a member of Chicago, or songwriting/producing high profile artists, as well as arranging, singing, and playing keyboards with today's up and coming artists, Lou has displayed a unique versatility among musicians and songwriters in the Los Angeles music scene. His soulful vocals, wide-ranging songwriting and playing includes elements of Pop, Rock, R&B, Latin, Jazz, Alternative, Gospel and Country. Evidenced by Lou's exceptional writing, recording, and performing efforts with such world-renowned artists as:
Pop/Rock legends; Elton John, Santana, The Doobie Brothers, and Peabo Bryson. R&B greats; Smokey Robinson, Steve Wonder, Earth, Wind, & Fire, The Temptations, and Jamie Foxx. Jazz artists; Kenny G, John Patitucci, Patti Austin, Alex Acuna, Nancy Wilson, Eric Marienthal, Larry Carlton, and Blues great Robben Ford. Gospel greats: Andrae Crouch, Helen Baylor, Koinonia, and members of the legendary Winans family.
Raised in northern California, Lou moved to Los Angeles shortly after attending the Berklee School of Music in Boston. His first break came in 1987, when legendary Motown artist Smokey Robinson recorded Lou's first song ever published; the # 1 hit 'Just To See Her', which won Lou a Grammy nomination for best R&B song of the year. This song also won Smokey his first Grammy for best R&B vocal. Two months later, Lou followed that by co-writing the #1 R&B hit song, 'I Wonder Who She's Seeing Now' for the Temptations featuring Stevie Wonder.
Motown was just the beginning. Lou followed that success with another Grammy nominated song, the Top Ten hit 'We've Saved the Best for Last' which was recorded by Kenny G. Following that Lou co-wrote the instrumental song, 'Uncle Al' with Kenny G for his "Live" CD featuring Lou on keyboards. Lou also co-wrote Patti Austin's 'Believe the Children' and 'Love is Gonna Getcha', produced by Dave Grusin. Other noteworthy collaborations include co-writing the song 'Psalms' on Weather Report's percussionist Alex Acuna's debut CD, featuring Lou on vocals and Carlos Santana on guitar. In addition, Peabo Bryson's rendition of 'I Just Had To Fall' on his hit CD "Can You Stop the Rain", adds to Lou's extensive and elaborate resume.
As a recording artist, Lou was recently in the studio contributing backing vocals for Elton John and Leon Russell's acclaimed CD "The Union", produced by T-bone Burnett. This CD also featured Lou on co-lead vocals with Elton and Leon on the song 'Jimmie Rodgers Dream'. Lou can also be heard on the band Chicago's latest Christmas release (produced by Phil Ramone), as lead vocalist and arranger on four songs, highlighted by his version of 'I'll Be Home For Christmas'. . .which was the featured song on "NBC's Ice Skating Spectacular featuring Brian Boitano" in 2012.
Lou released two of his own CD's with JVC-Victor Music titled, "A Night to Remember", and "Live and Let Live" resulting in an enormous fan base in Japan, Southeast Asia, and the Philippines, with a solid base of fans and followers all over Europe developed from his tenure as lead singer and keyboardist with the "all-star" LA band, Koinonia featuring legendary bass great Abraham Laboriel.
As a composer and artist, Lou's credits include a vast library of music featured on TV and film including the recently released, "Romance and Cigarettes" written and directed by John Turturro and starring Kate Winslet and James Gandolfini and the movie "Blue" directed by Ryan Minningham.
Currently, touring the world with the band Chicago, Lou and fellow band members have been in the studio recording new music for the next Chicago album to be released in 2013. In addition to his plans for recording a solo release of songs with some exciting guest artists, Lou has been busy in his Los Angeles studio writing music with plans to aggressively seek new, up and coming talent to develop, write music, and produce for an undisclosed record label.
