Exceptional Ohio Inn Offers "Chef for a Day" Experience
2013-02-20
LOGAN, OH, February 20, 2013 (Press-News.org) After the popularity of its 2012 "Innkeeper for an Afternoon" offering, and frequent comments from guests who say they'd love to be a chef, the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls has created a unique way for travelers to experience firsthand what it's like to run the kitchen in a celebrated country inn. The Inn's new "Chef for a Day" program was just launched to allow guests to try their hand as a chef.

The Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls Chef for a Day program is led by Executive Chef Anthony Schulz and is offered from most days from 1-5 p.m. by advance reservation. The experience takes place in the Inn's kitchen and includes a private, one-on-one cooking class. Students will assist Schulz in preparing the evening dinner service and will receive specialized training on prearranged topics, such as prepping, making dressings and marinades, properly grilling meats or menu design. Details and reservations and are available by calling (800) 653-2557 or online at www.innatcedarfalls.com.

The Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls Chef for a Day course includes:
- Four-hour, one-on-one instruction
- Menu of the Day
- A copy of one of the Inn's cookbooks
- Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls apron
- Food tastings
- Dinner

The program is being received with rave reviews, according to Executive Chef Anthony Schulz.

"It's such a great experience for couples, especially if one cooks and the other does not," said Schulz. "The program lets travelers see what it's really like behind the lines and they get to know a chef firsthand. Students learn why chefs do what they do, as well as taking home secret tips and methods they'll never find in a cookbook."

Schulz added that guests will learn classic technique, yet in an approachable way that's easy to understand. "Students are doing the prep and cooking themselves, and they can ask questions. Then afterward, they'll enjoy one of the best meals of their lives, while seeing our other guests enjoy the same meal that they prepared. It's very gratifying."

A Hocking Hills Tourism Association Certified Green destination, The Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls is located 1/2 mile above Hocking Hills' scenic Cedar Falls. The region offers a variety of recreational opportunities including hiking, bird watching, canoeing and fishing, as well as exquisite photo opportunities. The Inn's pampering spa offers a full compliment of spa services, including couples massage, girlfriend getaways, bridal parties and group events.

Fine American cuisine is the specialty at the Inn's dining room and meals are prepared with the finest organic herbs, produce and ingredients. Fluids in Space, Shaken Not Stirred

James Bond might be the first to tell you that a well-shaken martini is a vast improvement over one that has settled and separated. A good mixture depends on understanding exactly how much to agitate a drink, as well as how quickly the ingredients will settle and if there are other mediating factors, such as temperature. If Bond really wanted to understand the science of his spirits, he could follow the examples of researchers who sent fluid mixture experiments to the International Space Station. New research has revealed that immature malaria parasites are more resistant to treatment with key antimalarial drugs than older parasites, a finding that could lead to more effective treatments for a disease that kills one person every minute and is developing resistance to drugs at an alarming rate. University of Melbourne researchers have shown for the first time that malaria parasites (Plasmodium falciparum)in the early stages of development are more than 100 times less sensitive to artemisinin-based drugs, which currently represent a last line of defense against ...

"In general, chloride contaminant residue levels were low in the cheese samples that we ...

Not just cars, but living organisms need antifreeze to survive

Not just cars, but living organisms need antifreeze to survive
2013-02-19
Jerusalem, February 17, 2013 – If you thought antifreeze was only something that was necessary to keep your car from freezing up in the winter, think again. Plants and animals living in cold climates have natural antifreeze proteins (AFPs) which prevent ice growth and crystallization of organic fluid matter. Without such antifreeze, living matter would suffer from frost damage and even death. Production of such antifreeze proteins is one of the major evolutionary routes taken by a variety of organisms, including fish, insects, bacteria, plants and fungi. Understanding ...
