William Peace University President To Lead Cooperating Raleigh Colleges

Debra M. Townsley, Ph.D., To Serve As Board President Of Nonprofit Consortium Working To Promote Collaboration Among Raleigh Higher Education Institutions

CARY, NC, February 20, 2013 (Press-News.org) William Peace University (http://www.peace.edu), a private four-year university located in downtown Raleigh, has announced that President Debra M. Townsley, Ph.D., has been appointed to lead the board of directors of Cooperating Raleigh Colleges (CRC), a nonprofit consortium that works to promote collaboration among higher education institutions located in Raleigh and Wake County. Townsley, who will serve as board president for the 2012-2013 academic year, will work alongside the other presidents, chancellors and the executive director to ensure collaboration among participating institutions.

A primary initiative for the organization is to orchestrate and successfully carry out efforts to increase academic resource sharing among each of the member institutions. Under Townsley's leadership, the CRC will concentrate on building on the organization's goal of collaborating and informing community leaders about the importance of higher education to the overall quality of life and the positive impact it has on the economic development of North Carolina. Additionally, the CRC Board of Directors and its members will review and propose specific initiatives, which include encouraging professional development for administration and faculty across campuses; acting as a liaison to further develop the relationships between the institutions and governmental, business and community leaders; and promoting student and staff leadership development.

The CRC includes Meredith College, NC State University, Saint Augustine's University, Shaw University and William Peace University. Wake Technical Community College is scheduled to join CRC on July 1, 2013. Based on the CRC Economic Impact Study, its five institutions of higher education represent 25 percent of all wage and salary income and 20 percent of the total employment across Wake County.
