Attorneys at The Umansky Law Firm Secure Favorable Result for Seminole County Firefighter

Former Florida Firefighter/ EMT Dean Erlandson acquitted of aggravated assault with a firearm, aggravated assault with a knife, false imprisonment, and domestic violence battery.

2013-03-09
ORLANDO, FL, March 09, 2013 (Press-News.org) After a four-day trial at the Seminole County Courthouse in Sanford, Florida, Attorneys Lindsey Gergely and Chris Kaigle with The Umansky Law Firm received an acquittal of all charges for their client, former Seminole County Firefighter/ EMT Dean Erlandson.

Mr. Erlandson was brought to trial on four very serious charges: aggravated assault with a firearm, aggravated assault with a knife, false imprisonment, and domestic violence battery.

Late Friday afternoon, March 1, 2012, to a packed courtroom, the jury returned a verdict of Not Guilty as to all counts.

Dean Erlandson was arrested in his home December 9th 2012 by the Winter Springs Police Department. Police told media that the charges originated from an ex-girlfriend by who told police that Mr. Erlandson had pointed a loaded gun at her, held a knife at her, and threatened to kill her.

At trial, Attorney Gergely and Attorney Kaigle helped bring to light the inconsistencies and falsehoods that ran rampant throughout the alleged victim's account of the incident.

Attorney Lindsey Gergely, the lead counsel on the Erlandson case and attorney with The Umansky Law Firm said, "I truly believe the jury got it right on this one. It took a while, but justice was finally done when Mr. Erlandson was found not guilty by a jury of his peers. Hopefully he can now start rebuilding his life."

Attorney Chris Kaigle, also with The Umansky Law Firm and co-counsel on the Erlandson case remarked, "The allegations against Mr. Erlandson simply did not make sense. Our system worked, the jury did its job, and Mr. Erlandson was found not guilty."

The jury was in a unique position in this case, because they were able to evaluate the whole story, both the alleged victims story, as well as Mr. Erlandson's recantation of the events of the night of the incident. Attorney's Gergely and Kaigle exposed inconsistencies in the case presented by the State of Florida, leading the jury to deliver an acquittal of Mr. Erlandson on all charges around 4:45 pm Friday afternoon. Had Mr. Erlandson been found guilty for all four charges, he could have been facing over 25 years in prison and 25 years of probation after his release.
