The Chef's Academy, Division of Harrison College, Receives Highest Honor For Community Involvement

RALEIGH, NC, March 15, 2013 (Press-News.org) The Chef's Academy (http://www.thechefsacademy.com), the Culinary Division of Harrison College, a 110-year-old, nationally accredited institution that offers more than 40 degree programs in five schools of study, has announced that it has been named to the 2013 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) (http://www.nationalservice.gov/Default.asp).This prestigious and highly esteemed award recognizes higher education institutions that reflect the values of exemplary community service, and achieve meaningful and significant outcomes in their respective communities.

The President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, the highest level of federal recognition, has been awarded to the culinary division of Harrison College for its commitment to service and civic engagement on its campuses and nationwide. Chosen from more than 5,000 colleges and universities across the nation, The Chef's Academy is one of 600 schools recognized for its community service. In particular, the CNCS looks for colleges and universities where the majority of the staff and students are engaged in community service, with the efforts focused on addressing a particular issue that aligns with the needs of the surrounding community. Over the years, The Chef's Academy has placed a large emphasis on educating local youth on the importance of leading a healthy life and integrating all aspects of wellness, including diet and exercise to help children start making smart lifestyle choices at an early age.

Inspired by the thousands of college students who traveled across the country to support relief efforts along the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina, CNCS has administered the award since 2006, and manages the program in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, as well as the American Council on Education and Campus Compact. The 2013 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll was announced at the American Council on Education's 95th Annual Meeting Leading Change in Washington, D.C., on Monday, March 4, 2013.
