SEOUL, KOREA, March 27, 2013 (Press-News.org) Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum and Exhibition (MIECF 2013) is being held at Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel from March 21st to 23rd.
Green Forum and Green Exhibition were the most important parts of MIECF 2013. Domestic and foreign experts, scholars and key figures in the industry would gather at one place, having time to present about current state of Eco-friendly industry with future outlook. This year's keynote speakers were Prof. Jeffrey Sachs, internationally renowned academic in the environmental protection field and Prof. CS Kiang, Chairman of Peking University Environment Fund.
Prof. Sachs said, "Sustainable Development is the greatest challenge facing our generation. The present course of global economic development is unsustainable in three critical ways. First, it is leaving too many nations behind. Second, it is creating new forms of inequality, joblessness, and instability within countries. And third, it is on a collision course with the environment. To solve the problems, economic progress in all regions should march in step with each other, enabling poor countries to narrow the gap with richer countries. And social and economic inclusion within countries, for girls and women as well as boys and men, and for minority groups as well as majority groups should maintain the harmony of social and economic sides. Lastly, economic growth should be consistent with planetary boundaries, to avoid catastrophic climate change and the massive loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services."
Prof. C. S. Kiang, Chairman, Sustainable Development Technology Foundation and Founding Dean of the College of Environmental gave a keynote speech on the second day of the conference. As Director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University, a university-wide initiative to address the challenges of sustainable development, Professor Sachs helps to lead an effort of hundreds of scientists, policy analysts, and development practitioners working around the world in climate science, engineering, economic development, public health, business formation, and international diplomacy.
Prof. C. S. Kiang said, "New Urbanism is an important and sustainable issue in China. By 2035, it is expected that more than three hundred million will move from "rural" areas to the "city". To accommodate this massive population migration, China is planning to build thousands of townships for 100,000 - 200,000 residents, starting in 2013. The Chinese Government has plans that will provide significant assistance to local districts as part of a stimulus package to accomplish "green building and sustainable communities" growth. Urbanization will lead to the growth of domestic energy consumption and hence requires a successful implementation of ideas and policies that will be the resolution to address the environmental global triple crisis".
And he also talked about how Macao, together with the Pan-Pearl River Delta Region has an important role in the world.
AVING Global NEWS Network is covering almost all kinds of industries as well as global Exhibition.
