2013-03-29
TOPEKA, KS, March 29, 2013 (Press-News.org) A two-year construction project comes to a close as Bryan University in Topeka makes preparations to move its Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology (HVAC) program to a new 6,500 square foot facility.

The new addition offers an opportunity to both students and area employers, according to Chief Executive Officer and President Brian Stewart. He said, "This will allow the University to provide employers in the Northwest Kansas area with new employees who are trained in HVAC technology." He went on to say that this is the first time the Bryan University has offered trade training.

Chamber ribbon cutting on Friday, April 12
Ribbon cutting to celebrate the completion of the building will take place on Friday, April 12 at 1:30 p.m. In addition to the Chamber of Commerce, civic leaders, media and representatives from area employers have been invited to celebrate completion of the facility.

It will house Bryan University's Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning program, and Executive Director Wayne Major estimates that 50-60 students a year will be trained there. He said, "The program will focus on fulfilling the needs of employers in the Topeka area by providing graduates with the technical training and customer service skills necessary for entry-level positions in the industry."

Open house scheduled for Saturday, April 13
The new facility will be open to the public on Saturday, April 13 from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Instructors and administration will be on-hand to show the facilities and equipment.

The new facility will offer students the opportunity to get hands-on experience with the equipment and technology likely to be encountered in the field. Students in the HVAC program at Bryan University learn both residential and commercial applications. The program offers training on basic electricity, heat pumps, troubleshooting and geothermal systems.

Topeka area employers have been invited to attend the ribbon-cutting and open house. The event is open to the public and Bryan University representatives will be available to answer questions about the program.

There will be two informative seminars during the open house:
• Preventative maintenance for your home heating and air conditioning system
• Energy saving tips for homeowners

Both events will take place at the new facility. The address is 5907 SW 21st Street, Topeka, KS 66604. To learn more about the open house event at Bryan University in Topeka, or any of the programs at Bryan University campuses or online, contact Wayne Major at (785) 272-0889.
